Patriotism Is Expressed Differently
In America, students in public schools are required to stand when the national flag is hoisted and recite the pledge of allegiance. Its an authoritative expectation. Failing to do so could even get students in trouble.
In a glaring America vs. Australia difference, the Aussies dont demand students to give an oath of allegiance. The Australian national flag may or may not be hoisted in local schools. People dont feel the need to display their patriotism in Austrailia. In fact, it is even frowned upon to inject rampant nationalist ideology on students.
How Do You Apply To Australian Universities
For international students applying to Australia, there is no centralised application system, meaning youll have to apply to each individual university directly, either online or by post.
To apply for a place at an Australian university, youll normally need to submit academic transcripts, course preferences and, if applicable, a summary of your employment experience. You usually wont need to write a personal statement or personal essay, but you may be asked to outline why you wish to study in Australia when you apply for your student visa later down the line.
In the Australian system, you have the option to start university in the first semester or the second semester .
If you want to start in the first semester, you must apply to the university by December at the latest. Most domestic students will get their application in much earlier, and it is often a good idea to do so, since universities can return with a decision just weeks later.
The latest deadline to start in the second semester is in May, but again, it would be wise not to wait that late.
In addition to completing an application form, you may also have to pay a one-time application fee, usually of between A$50-A$100 .

How Much Does It Cost To Study In Australia
Similar to the UK and the US, studying in Australia comes with a hefty price tag, but you wont necessarily have to pay for everything on your own. The cost of living differs greatly across the country, and it is worth exploring financial aid avenues before ruling out the possibility of studying Down Under.
Fees in Australia are generally calculated per study unit, rather than per year. Most students will be studying a combination of units from different bands, and each unit will fall into a different band and costing so all students will be paying varying amounts each year.
That said, the average tuition fee for international undergraduate students in Australia is A$30,840 per year, but students could pay anything between A$20,000 and A$45,000. Undergraduate degrees last between three and four years.
A year-long masters degree will usually cost A$22,000-A$50,000 in tuition.
Veterinary and medical degrees cost considerably more. For example, at Australian National University, a bachelors degree in an arts subject costs A$38,400 a year, but a bachelors in medical science costs about A$51,360 per year.
Accommodation costs vary, depending on the type and region: the more rural regions, in the western and northern Australian states, will be much cheaper the big cities will cost more, particularly if you want to live centrally.
Youll also need to factor in lifestyle costs, which will depend on your financial situation and personal preferences.
Which States Are They Studying In
US students have shown a preference for studying in New South Wales and Queensland. Of the total US student population studying in Australia, 38 per cent choose New South Wales, while 31 per cent study in Queensland. This is followed by Victoria and Western Australia . South Australia, the Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania and the Northern Territory have smaller numbers of American students and smaller numbers of international students overall.

Homework Is Becoming Less Important In Australia
Both Australian and American schools dish out tons of homework to students. While American high schools continue to demand some 3 to 4 hours of homework after classes, things are changing in Australia. Local schools in Australia are actually doing away with homework requirements.
It should be noted that this concept is not without controversy. However, Aussie parents are increasingly expressing doubts about homework. Teachers dont care much for it either. And schools have experimentally dropped homework or drastically reduced the workload for students.
Homework is still considered to be a staple of student life in the US. Its even thought that children pick up good values like responsibility from it. Whats more, well-performing kids can make money by helping others with assignments., You can see examples here at EssayOnTime. Apart from giving the brighter students an opportunity to help and earn some extra money, it also pulls forward any of the students that are lagging behind.

How Does The Healthcare System Work In Australia
Australias healthcare system is a mixture of public and private programs. The public program is called Medicare. Every Australian citizen is eligible for a Medicare card and free or subsidized treatment by health professionals. Free treatment and accommodations as a public patient in a private hospital is also possible.
But if youre an American citizen living in Australia, any medical treatment you receive will not be covered by the US Medicare System or Australias Medicare.
With this in mind, you might want to consider taking out a private health insurance policy specifically designed for American expats. This will give you the coverage you need to pay for any medical costs that may arise.
Find A Course And Select Your Universities
Australian universities tend to adopt the UK system where you select your course before you begin your studies. You can, however, apply to different courses at one or many different universities. It is important to choose a course you are passionate about because you may not be able to swap this easily, if at all, when you arrive.
Certain states limit the number of universities you can apply to so be selective about where you want to study.
Have fun researching. There are a lot of options out there so explore our course finder to discover what Australia has to offer.

What Kind Of Universities Are There In Australia
The Australian higher education system is home to a range of universities, from leading research institutions to technical colleges, art schools and more.
Universities are mostly clustered on the east coast, with a total of 21 institutions in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and other towns in the states of Queensland and New South Wales.
A further eight universities are based in Melbourne, six more in Adelaide on the southern coast, and one in between Adelaide and Melbourne.
On the other side of the continent, there are five universities on the west coast, in Perth and Fremantle, and just one in Darwin, far to the north in the Northern Territory.
The Group of Eight, also referred to as the Go8, is an association of Australias leading research universities, similar to the Russell Group in the UK or the Ivy League in the US. Universities in the Go8 include the University of Adelaide, the Australian National University, the University of Melbourne, Monash University, UNSW Sydney, The University of Queensland, the University of Sydney and The University of Western Australia.
As well as these older traditional universities, many younger Australian institutions are beginning to make a splash on the global stage. More than a quarter of Australias universities in THEs top 100 universities are under 50 years old. Examples of these up-and-coming institutions include Charles Darwin University and Queensland University of Technology.
Tuition Fees And Course Costs For Domestic Students
As with many other places around the world, its cheaper to study in Australia for domestic students, especially those who successfully apply for a Commonwealth supported place, which means study costs are largely subsidized by the government. Commonwealth supported places are available at all public universities in Australia and some but not all private ones.
Student contribution amounts vary depending on where and what you study, but are capped by the government. The government sets the minimum and maximum range for each fee band, which, for 2018, is AU$0-6,444 for Band 1 AU$0-9,185 for Band 2 and AU$0-10,754 for Band 3.
You will need to work out your total tuition fees by identifying which subjects or units are covered by each band, and how many credits you get for each unit. Multiply this EFTSL figure by the band fee charge to get the total cost per unit. Or, alternatively, you can just use an online calculator. Most institutions provide one on their website.
Tuition fees for domestic graduate students are worked out in a similar way. Some institutions publish estimates of the yearly fee for graduate students. For example the University of Melbourne lists prices for 2019 ranging from AU$19,008 per year for Master of Psychiatry, up to AU$57,088 for a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Some graduate programs also offer Commonwealth-assisted places, so check with the institution.

How Do I Begin If I Want To Study In America
There are four basic steps you must complete in order to study at a university in the United States.
How do I begin the process of studying in the United States?
Answer: As a prospective international student, there are four basic steps you must complete in order to study at a U.S. university. The first step is to decide which universities to apply to. This is often a complicated task, because you need to know a lot of information to make a good choice. If you have no idea about how to do this, you may consider contacting the closest academic advising center sponsored by your government or by the United States government. Each of these offices can provide excellent advice about schools that you should consider. You should also look at the schools that have links to this site.
After you have decided which schools interest you, the next step is to contact the Office of Admissions at each school and request an admissions application for graduate study. This application will give you details about the process at each school. While you are waiting, it would be a good time to take the TOEFL and any other examinations that will be required by most schools.
The third step is to complete the applications you decide to pursue and to arrange to have all of your records of secondary and post-secondary study sent directly to the schools you have selected. Then send in the applications and the application fees according to the instructions in each application packet.
