  • Learn about your financing options
  • Take Preliminary Entrance Exams

Most students take the PSAT starting in 10th grade. The PSAT the official precursor to the SAT mirrors the SAT by testing students in three core areas: mathematics, reading comprehension, and writing/grammar. The PSAT takes place in mid-October.

Unlike the SAT, the score that students receive on their PSAT exam does not impact their chances of college admission. However, high scores may qualify students for a National Merit Scholarship or other financial aid awards. Students can also use their PSAT score to assess their readiness for the SAT both tests use essentially the same scoring formula. The material and format of the test is also useful to students who take the ACT instead of the SAT.

What Do I Do If I Miss The College Application Deadline

If you are unable to submit your college application by the deadline, there are a few things you can do. First, however, we recommend that you contact the schools admissions office directly. This allows you to explain the situation to them and ask if there is any way that you can still submit your application. When you get in contact, though, make sure you have an actual reason for missing the deadline they may be less sympathetic if you simply forgot about the deadline. You might also consider writing a letter to the admissions office. In the letter, detail why you missed the deadline and elaborate on why you are a good fit for that college. Hopefully, they will still let you submit your application. If not, you still have options, dont worry!

A few more options for missed deadlines

If the missed deadline is your top-choice and you are determined to attend, theres a few options. First, you can wait a semester for the chance to re-apply. In the case you choose to do this, make sure to gather all your materials early so that you can apply on time.

Alternatively, you can accept the offer to another school you were accepted to, attend it for a year, and then transfer to your top-choice school. On that note, you can also attend a local community college, before transferring to your top-choice school. This will allow you to save money and get some credits out of the way before attending their dream school.

Good luck meeting those college application deadlines!

Applying to Sixth Form College can feel like youre going back to school for the first day again-its confusing and you dont know how its going to go. That said, at the very least, you should know when the application deadlines are for Sixth Form College and when you need to get yourself on the books for.

This article is going to help you with just that answering all the questions you might have about Sixth Form College application deadlines. Below, I have provided you with an exact answer to the question of when you need to apply for college, however, throughout the article I will be going into significantly more detail.

The short answer here is that most colleges will accept applications from October to the new year. Almost all colleges will start the application process at the same time, usually in the autumn term of Year 11. This will be the very end of October through to November. Some colleges accept applications throughout the spring time too but it is more likely that applications will close in the new year, rather than extending all the way to April.

If you would like any further information on this topic, keep reading and hopefully this article will be able to answer the questions you may have surrounding college applications.

Your College Planning Timeline For Regular Deadlines

How do I apply for scholarships?

In many ways, your college planning timeline for regular decision will be similar to the timeline for applying for early admission–but with some key differences. You have to consider how busy the fall of senior year is, both for you and for your teachers and counselors.

If your senior year schedule is packed with challenging courses and after school involvements, then you still might want to work on your essay over the summer months, when you have more time and focus for it. You also might still ask for your recommendations in September, or at least October. Some teachers set a cap on how many letters they’ll write, and they probably don’t want to spend their entire winter holiday writing letters. Try to ask early in the fall semester.

When you apply for regular decision, you might have one more opportunity to take the SAT or ACT in December. It’s still advisable to take it at least once in junior year, and many students take it twicein the fall of 11th grade and again in the spring. Again, you want to think about your schedule in the fall and how to best balance putting together a strong college application with all your other assignments, clubs, and/or sports.

Finally, some schools don’t have set deadlines at all and are flexible about when applications arrive. This option is called rolling admissions.

    Gather Your Application Materials

To speed up the application process, spend some time gathering your application materials ahead of time. In general, youll need the following information to apply to college:

    • Standardized test scores: You should have a copy of your SAT or ACT scores handy.
    • High school transcripts: Youll need to provide colleges with your high school transcripts. Some schools require official transcripts, meaning transcripts that come directly from your high school and are in a sealed envelope. Other universities will accept unofficial transcripts , so check your schools requirements before submitting your application.
    • Essays: Many colleges require you to craft a personal essay. This is your opportunity to show your personality, unique experiences, and writing ability.
    • Personal recommendations: You might need several personal recommendations from people who can talk about your talents, community service, or work ethic. A recommendation can come from a teacher, guidance counselor, pastor, or even a manager from a job youve had.

    Tip:

    Compare Your Options And Commit

Once students receive responses from all the schools they applied to, their final decision process can begin. If they have been admitted to more than one school, they should consider variables like institutional financial aid offerings, room and board costs, and geographical distance from home. Most schools do not require accepted students to make their final declaration until the following year.

Students should visit as many campuses as they can to compare campus environments. If possible, speak to other students, professors, faculty members, and financial aid officers. If in-person visits are not possible, students should take time to contact school officials by telephone or email.

What If Asking The Right Question Can Help High School Seniors Apply To College

Two little words in the form of a question have the potential to change lives: What If?

Just by asking high school seniors, What if? we can ignite their aspirations. What if they want to create the next big social media app? What if they want to find a new way to help people? What if they have a method of unlocking a mystery thats perplexed humankind?

The What If question is a starting point it allows high school counselors, college advisors, parents, relatives, and friends to then explain how bringing those aspirations to life requires education, training, and experience.

In support of #WhyApply Day, ACACs social media campaign asks students What If? as a way for them to express their ambitions and to think introspectively while providing educators, mentors, family members, and those who support students with a conversation starter.

    Pay Attention To Application Deadlines

While the FAFSA deadline is an important date to remember, colleges have their own deadlines for their applications, too. There are three main categories of deadlines:

    • Early action: With early action, you submit your application to schools earlier, usually in the fall of your senior year. While early action applications arent binding , they can help you get into more competitive schools.
    • Early decision: When you submit an early decision application in the fall, you commit to attending that school if the college accepts you. You usually use early decision only for your top school choice.
    • Regular admission: If you decide to apply through regular admission, youll typically apply in the winter of your senior year.

Note your prospective schools deadlines on a calendar so you dont miss any of them. You should be able to find these dates by visiting a colleges admissions website.

When Do You Apply For Rolling Admissions

Your timeline for applying for rolling admissions depends on a few factors and may vary from student to student. Schools with rolling admissions accept applications throughout a period of time, usually ranging from the fall to the spring. For example, the application for ASU opened July 1 this year and will remain open through Spring 2022.

Since most schools with rolling admissions accept applications on a first come, first served basissometimes notifying you of admission only a few weeks after you submitit’s advisable to apply as early as possible. Sticking to an early deadline of November or regular deadline in January, even though you don’t absolutely have to, is a good guideline to follow.

Not only will setting a deadline for yourself help you keep better track of your college planning, but it will help you apply early and thereby impress admissions officers, which gives you a better chance of admission.

Some schools with rolling admission also publicize a priority deadline, meaning students who apply by that deadline have an advantage. University of Maryland’s priority deadline, for instance, is November 1. They’ll still accept applications after, but you’ll have improved chances if you apply by then.
