When Is College Enrollment Date

Don't Miss

Heres When Students Can Expect To Receive Regular Admission Decisions

How To Find Your Enrollment Dates

Are you ready for regular decision notification dates? Admissions offices across the US are working hard to get through hundreds of thousands of regular decision college applications for the class of 2026 in order to notify students of their decisions by the spring.

Generally, most colleges aim to have regular admission decisions ready by the end of March. Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic brought a lot of changes to the admissions cycle, including extended regular decision deadlines, which impacted decision dates. Even the Ivy League schools pushed their regular decision release dates back to April 6th in 2021. This year, many colleges are aiming to announce decisions closer to their regular timing, which means March release dates will be more common.

Last year, many colleges reported record-high increases in early applications, and its likely that this trend will continue into 2022. Consequently, its important to keep track of every component of the admissions process, including regular application decision notification dates for the class of 2026.

Many of these dates are general, so expect these dates to change as we draw closer to mid-March. It is also possible for colleges to post a release date only to move it up or postpone to a later date, so these dates are subject to change.

    Test Scores Are Vital

Students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds should rest assured that standardized tests are no longer required at many schools, but others should still plan on taking the tests.

As more students move toward not wanting to take the SAT or ACT, and as misinformation continues to grow regarding what exactly test-optional means, those who do take the tests will see a considerable advantage to their applications.

For example, students applying to the University of Pennsylvania saw 38% of its test takers apply without test scores during early decision, but only 24% of accepted students came from this category.

Its not only takers of the SAT or the ACT who will see the benefit. Given the disruption to classroom teaching, anything that a student can do to objectively demonstrate their abilities will be to their advantage.

This includes Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate testing after all, an A in American History is much easier to quantify if there is a 4 or a 5 on the AP test backing it up.

    Ready To Start Your Journey

    • Most applications opened on August 1 for students applying for fall 2022 enrollment.
    • College deadlines most often fall between November and February.
    • Early admission means preparing your application sooner in your senior year.
    • Regular decision gives you more time to work on college essays and take exams.

Most college applications including the Common Application and the Coalition for College opened on August 1, 2021, for students who plan to start school in fall 2022. That said, students could have completed the general application components at any time before this date.

Colleges that maintain proprietary applications, such as Brigham Young University and Georgetown University, can vary in their open dates but generally become available by late August or early September.

While most schools require similar application components, different admission options allow you to submit your application by different deadlines. The four basic options are early action, early decision, regular decision, and rolling admission.

Regardless of when you apply, you’ll need to submit a college essay , recommendation letters, official high school transcripts, and, if required, standardized test scores.

Many demographic groups didnt apply in the same numbers that were expected, largely due to the pandemic. This happened at both ends of the socioeconomic spectrum. Concerns about the ability to pay for higher education have led some students to not apply for fall 2021 enrollment. On the other hand, many of those with more resources embarked on a gap year in hopes of having a more normal college experience post-pandemic.

At some places, like Dartmouth, the number of gap-year deferments this past year was four times the typical figure.

When To Apply For College In The Fall

Applying to college entails a considerable amount of planning. While you can start some parts at the beginning of your senior year of high school, it’s recommended that you request recommendation letters and take the SAT or ACT your junior year. This tip is especially important for those planning to apply for an early admission decision.

Early action and early decision are ideal options for students who are prepared to apply early their senior year. Often resulting in an admission decision by mid-December, these options give students plenty of time to relax and enjoy their final semester of high school. Additionally, students who apply early to college may enjoy higher acceptance rates than regular decision applicants.

To meet an early deadline, you should begin the application process the summer before your senior year, focusing your efforts on writing your essay, gathering letters of recommendation, and taking the SAT/ACT.

Though early admission is growing in popularity, most students opt for the regular decision window. For students who need additional time to compare schools, perfect their essays, or retake the SAT/ACT, regular decision may be your best option. Be sure to request letters of recommendation by September of your senior year, as teachers tend to get extremely busy in late fall due to midterms and other recommendation requests.

Whichever deadline you decide works best for you, just make sure you feel confident when you submit your application.

College Admissions Numbers In : Looking To 2022

No other years in recent history have been as seismic in their impact on college admissions, and indeed education as a whole, as 2020 and 2021.

While the pandemic may have spurred changes, debates over the role of test scores and equity for students of all socio-economic backgrounds will continue.

While it will take some time to sort out all the changes, one thing is for sure: High school students from the class of 2022 are going to face the brunt of a great deal of this uncertainty.

Since no one has a crystal ball that shows glimpses of the future, its impossible to say exactly what it might hold.

However, based on what weve learned from this admissions cycle, there are some important predictions for the 2022 admissions cycle that can be deduced.

Going Forward To 202: What To Expect

College admissions scandal: Will the people involved see jail time?

Just because the pandemic has been ongoing for a year doesnt mean that colleges, counselors, or anyone else knows what to expect for the 20212022 application cycle.

The class of 2022 may be looking forward to a college experience with relatively little in the way of mandatory virtual classes or restrictive social activities, but they will still need to go through an admissions cycle that has plenty of pandemic holdovers that could buck the unprepared.

Boomerang On Yield Protection And Merit Aid

If all this is starting to sound a bit gloomy, there is still some good news to be had. As the economy continues to rebound, merit aid will likely take a strong upward trend. This is especially true as colleges look to guarantee yield protection to the absolute best of their capabilities. Universities acknowledge that students will be able to get a better deal elsewhere, and would rather keep their acceptances to themselves.

Speaking of those acceptances, fierce competition and a requirement to dig deep into the waitlist should see students whose admissions profile would have put them on a waitlist this past year are being accepted in the first round in 2022. Again, this is most likely the case as schools move from perceived sellers to buyers in college admissions.

    Early Admissions Acceptance Rates

Early admissions rates decreased across the board, but this was most noticeable at elite colleges. With double-digit increases in the number of applications, this isnt particularly surprising.

However, its not just with regards to the sheer number of applications that acceptance rates have decreased, but out of a desire for yield protection .

Following an uncertain 20202021 cycle and with an eye to one in 20212022 that is even more unstable, many colleges and universities will be looking towards yield protection as a way to make sure that their rankings stays roughly the same. With lower overall student enrollment, yield protection will be skewed compared to previous years.
