What About Scholarships For Vocational Schools Or Trade Schools
While less accessible than community college scholarships, there are scholarships for vocational schools. These are typically available directly through the school. Some institutions offer payment plans for students who cannot afford all of their tuition upfront. You can speak with your trade schools financial aid department to learn more. Ask about their free tuition programs, if applicable, and see if you qualify.
Additionally, you may contact a potential employer to fund your vocational education. Some companies will cover the cost of tuition in exchange for a future work contract. You agree to work for them for a predetermined time frame, and they pay for your education. The financial aid department may have information about companies that offer this service near you.
Get Started With Financial Aid
When you make the decision to go to college, cost can be a major factor in where you actually get to go. Thankfully, Alabamas community colleges have financial aid programs for new and current students that include grants, scholarships and other resources. These resources help ensure that everyone who wants to pursue a top-notch higher education can reasonably do so.
The first thing you want to do is complete the FAFSA, which is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Were here to help you get started!
Why Start with the FAFSA?While scholarships and other financial aid vary based on what college you attend, submitting the FAFSA gives you the most access to financial aid sources to pay for your education. In addition to federal resources, local funding sources such as scholarship committees and colleges also tend to require that you have completed the FAFSA.
If you need help completing the FAFSA or want more information on other funding sources for college, contact your local community college at the links below to learn more.

How To Choose A College
Studying at a Community College can be a great experience but all colleges are not suitable for international students. So do some research and look for the following criteria:
- How many students does the college have? To enjoy college life and be able to choose the subjects you like you should make sure that the college you are applying for isnt too small.
- Do they have international students? Colleges with many international students will most likely have a better support system in place for international students and you can get to know more students in the same situation.
- Do they have agreements with good universities? If you consider taking a Bachelors Degree in the US you should apply for a Community College that has transfer agreements with good universities. Then you can transfer to the university and count all your credits from the Community College. Good transfer agreements are usually a sign of a good college.
- Does the school have a good location? Life outside of the classroom is a big part of studying abroad so make sure that you choose a school with an attractive location. However always form your own opinion. What is attractive to others might not be attractive to you. Some people like warm weather and beaches, others like big cities or smaller places close to nature.
You should also look at reviews, student housing, tuition fees, the subjects that the college offers etc. For more information see our article on how to choose a school abroad.

Are There Community College Scholarships For High School Students
Some high schools allow juniors and seniors to attend community college for part of the day. This is a fast-track to a college degree, but it is not available for everyone. If you can attend community college as a high school student, talk to the colleges financial aid department. They may have a partnership with the high school to cover the cost of your classes. However, you will need to pay for books and other supplies out of pocket.
If your high school does not offer a financial aid program for the school, ask about local scholarships and grants for high school students.
