Doctor Of Dental Surgery Or Doctor Of Dental Medicine

ANGS: Which Degree is Right for Me?

Career: Dentist

A Doctor of Dental Medicine or Doctor of Dental Surgery degree qualifies an individual to work on all of the structures in a patients mouth and engage in general dentistry. Both of these degrees require the same type of education with very little variation between them. In order to practice as a dentist, a student must first complete a bachelors degree in a field of study thats related to the dental field. After graduating with a bachelors, the student attends dental school for four more years. Students learn how to work on patients in a clinical setting, undergo classroom training, and train in a dental laboratory. After graduation, students must pass the National Board Dental Examination, a regional board examination, and be able to pass a state exam for licensing.

What makes the DDM/DDS one of the most in demand degrees is the fact the field is in need of qualified dentists. People will always need dental care no matter how good at-home dental technology becomes.

How Do I Choose The Right Program For Me

SFU registrar says you don’t necessarily have to decide on a career before you begin your studies: “an undergraduate degree is an undergraduate degree.”

By Erin MillarMay 22, 2007

Do you hate the question: what are you doing with your life? We all know it can be difficult to decide what path to follow. However, once you decide, it can be just as hard to find a university program to help you get on that path.

There are many specialized programs to suit tangible career goals out there. What makes a good program? How can you wade through a universitys marketing material to find out whether a program is for you? Macleans chatted with Kate Ross, registrar and senior director of student enrolment at Simon Fraser University, to find out.

Kate Ross: My philosophy is that an undergraduate degree is an undergraduate degree. In some respects, employers dont really care what area its from but it sends a message about capability. You probably have good analytical skills you have writing ability you have the ability to critically think. To some extent, its not about what you took but what you gained from it.

I think sometimes that young people think that they have to have a direction. Theyre supposed to be able to say, Well, Im going to be an X.

But if somebody had told me when I did my undergraduate degree, that I would be in the role that Im in now, I would have told them they were crazy.

Do You Handle Stressful Unpleasant Situations Well

Is College Right For Me? (Nope)

While no job is stress free, nursing can provide some challenging moments. Crawley notes that nurses must be able to handle stress and conflict. We see people at their worst, Crawley says. Nurses take the brunt of the patient’s frustration, anger and sometimes violence. It is not a pleasant experience, but with our training, we learn how to handle these situations.

Russ suggests that prospective nurses shadow those in the field to answer any questions about what they can handle on the job. Can I clean up puke without gagging? Russ asks. Can I hold a straight face with a patient who has done something inappropriate? Can I handle anger or aggression?

There are many rewards to being able to weather hard moments as a nurse. People love thatnursing lets you get to know your patients on an intimate level while helping them through some of the best and worst times of their lives, Crawley explains. You know your presence, your touch and your time spent teaching them are making an impact and a difference.

Is It Worth Completing A Degree In Healthcare

The short answer is yes!

Healthcare is a growing industry and there are a variety of careers to choose from. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a 15% growth rate for all healthcare occupations from 2019-2029, which is well above the national average. This will create about 2.4 million new healthcare jobs.

Some of this growth can be attributed to aging baby boomers, who will need medical care and health services. Additionally, many from that same generation will retire soon, creating more job openings in healthcare-related positions, including medical assisting, occupational therapy and physical therapy assisting.

Additionally, healthcare organizations are evolving and increasing their use of technology to create operational efficiencies, innovate and advance medical practices and improve their quality of care. For example, many organizations are streamlining their billing processes and creating electronic patient records. As a result, there is a growing demand for medical billing and medical coding professionals to create and interpret these electronic records, as well as professionals in management and administration to oversee the process. There has also been a greater push for telehealth as a means of offering patient care.

Why Are So Many People Getting Graduate Degrees

What degree do I need to be a radiologist? What College ...

The reasons why more people are returning to school to get their graduate degrees are varied. The most common reason is the state of the economy. When the economy is in good shape, people are less likely to stay in school to earn a masters degree. During times of economic distress, people are more likely to enter a masters degree program or go from their bachelors degree to a masters degree program. Some professions require a masters degree for employment in a specific role, but dont necessarily shut out those who have an undergraduate degree. Employers will hire undergrads in lesser roles while they work on earning their masters and offer the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the meantime.

The most in demand graduate degrees also drives people to continue their education or return to school. Employers tend to prize a graduate degree due to the specialized education thats taught in a masters degree program. They view the person with a masters degree as someone who has both a broad and refined base of knowledge that can boost the organization to new heights. Employers push demand for graduate degrees through a willingness to pay high salaries and the promise of a solid career trajectory.

Even Without A Degree Youre Already Putting Your Name Out There

And then theres the kind of people who dont really focus on effort and money. They focus on time. Why waste 4 years in a college or university when you can already do what after-college life promises youd be able to do? If youre planning to build a business and you already have the basic needs of an entrepreneur someone willing to learn, take risks and knows how to listen to his guts well then maybe skipping college wont be a bad choice. Many parents still dread the idea of their kids doing something theyre not used to, like holding up in the garage and claiming theyre building something. Or moving to a friends couch. These are the doings of modern-day students of the society. The point is if you feel like you can already get your name out there, then go!

For You Work Experience Is More Important Than Education

See, back in the old days, and I mean the generation that came before, educational background is the most important thing in ones resume. Students do everything they can to graduate with flying colors. They take part in all clubs and school activities they can and they work hard to intern at big companies. All these just so their resume would look great! And today, many companies still apply this. Many still turn down applicants even though qualified through work experience just because he/she didnt go to college. Worry not, there are also many companies that are run by people like you people who believe work experience and attitude are far more important than a college education. Sure, it looks good if you can say on your resume that you have a degree relevant to the job. But keep in mind that there are many short courses you can take. Those would work just fine too!

They dont really have problems with the education system or going to college. They just cant wait to go out there and experience the world.
