    What Happens When A College Loses Accreditation

    Most colleges, universities and even K-12 schools are accredited. Accreditation demonstrates to the public at large, other institutions and potential employers that students graduating from an accredited school are well prepared and educated. So when a school loses its accreditation status its students can often experience some negative repercussions.

    When a College Fails

    When a college, university or vocational program loses its accreditation status, there are many more looming implications for its students.

    Students attending the school at the time of the accreditation loss face the school closing rather abruptly. This is due to the fact that the federal government does not usually provide financial aid to unaccredited post secondary institutions. The vast majority of these schools are heavily dependent on financial aid and the immediate withdrawal of all government funds guarantees that the school will quickly go bankrupt.

    Furthermore, these students will have a difficult time finding admission to another school to complete their degree or program if their school closes from an accreditation loss. While most colleges and universities will accept high school students from unaccredited schools, they’re not nearly as forgiving to those students who attended an unaccredited post secondary institution.

Students can also verify a school or program’s accreditation status through the CHEA website or the ED’s Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.

    With only a few exceptions, international institutions are not accredited by bodies recognized by CHEA or the ED. However, CHEA has established international quality principles to serve as guidelines for establishing a universal understanding of educational quality.

    Several fake accrediting bodies exist, which are entities that lack recognition by the ED or CHEA. Many online colleges that fall under the description of “degree mills” or “diploma mills” claim to hold accreditation through fake agencies to try to boost their credibility. Enrolling in one of these schools presents problems with respect to financial aid opportunities, transfer options, and employment. Plus, if an unaccredited institution closes or simply fails to deliver what they promise, students are left without the education for which they paid. Students can verify the legitimacy of an accrediting agency through the ED or CHEA directly.

    District And Service Area

    The system’s service area has grown steadily across its history as surrounding regions have agreed to be annexed into the tax district in return for in-district tuition for their residents. The ACC District now spans all or most of seven counties in Central Texas and parts of four more. As defined by the Texas Legislature, the official service area of ACC currently includes:

    In the fall of 1973, the college held its first classes in the former Anderson High School building in east Austin, which ACC named its Ridgeview Campus. Evening classes were also held at several Austin public high schools. The Rio Grande Campus, the system’s second, was opened downtown in 1975 in the building recently vacated by Austin High School.

    Over succeeding decades the college added the Riverside Campus in the East Riverside neighborhood of southeast Austin, on the former site of the Austin Country Club the Northridge Campus on the northern edge of Travis County the Pinnacle Campus in Oak Hill in southwest Austin the Cypress Creek Campus in Cedar Park the Eastview Campus, which replaced the closing Ridgeview Campus in east Austin the South Austin Campus the Round Rock Campus the Elgin Campus the Highland Campus, on the site of the closing Highland Mall in north Austin the Hays Campus in Kyle and the San Gabriel Campus in Leander .     The master of accountancy program is designed to provide the foundations students will need to adapt and excel in the rapidly changing environment of the accounting profession. The accounting faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno are dedicated to presenting students with solid fundamentals, along with state-of-the-art tools and techniques in auditing, financial reporting and taxation.     Bachelors Degree Completion Program In Social Work

    The Elms College bachelors degree completion program offered at Asnuntuck Community College meets all general requirements of Elms College. You enter the program with the required associates degree , satisfy Elms core requirements, and complete the requirements for the social work degree.

    Classes are held on Saturdays, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and are taught by Elms faculty, in 10 eight-week sessions over a 20 month period. Students will join a cohort and remain in that group throughout the program. This degree program prepares students to take the state social work licensing exam at the L.S.W. level in Massachusetts. In addition, graduates are eligible for advanced standing in many social work graduate programs.

You know how important accreditation is to your educational experience, and you are determined to find out if your school of choice is accredited before you commit to a program. But there are dozens of different accrediting organizations. Does it matter what agency accredits your school? After all, accreditation is accreditation, right?

    Unfortunately, that is not quite true. The organization that accredits a college, university, or vocational program is a major indicator of educational quality. Your school must be evaluated by a recognized accrediting agency in order for you to get your money’s worth.     Regional Accreditation

    First of all, you need to know whether to find a school that has regional accreditation or national accreditation. The U.S. Department of Education does not accredit schools itself, but it does recognize certain accrediting agencies. You can check the DOE database for specific information on an accrediting body. You can also use the CHEA as a source of information however, if your school is not accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, you will not be eligible for financial aid, and you may have other difficulties, such as transferring credits or obtaining professional licenses.
