Whats The Purpose Of The Nccrs And Ace
All students are individuals with unique needs and goals. Many of todays students, particularly adult learners, have turned to online learning platforms that allow them to earn their degree outside of the traditional classroom. For many, online learning makes far more sense when you consider the flexibility and affordability these programs offer. But there was a time when these credits earned would not be able to count toward their full degree should they decide to eventually apply to a brick-and-mortar school.
Both organizations believe students should have the opportunity to receive college credit for certain applicable learning outside of the university classroom. The belief is that its absolutely possible to learn the equivalent of what one might learn in a college course. This could either take place from prior work experience and/or certain non-collegiate courses. As a whole, this is often referred to as Prior Learning Assessment or PLA.
Their goals are to provide the structure to to translate that experience into credits when you enroll at your college, and help you potentially be that much closer to finishing your degree.
For example, lets say youve have taken a challenging course on Algebra from a learning company called ABC Learning that isnt a university . And, it essentially entails everything one would normally learn in their first semester Algebra course in college.

What Is Ace Credit
The American Council on Education College Credit Recommendation Service connects workplace learning with colleges and universities by helping adults gain access to academic credit for formal courses and examinations taken outside traditional degree programs. College credit may also be awarded through direct evaluation of service school transcripts. For ACE-evaluated credit, the training and/or examination must be evaluated by ACE and included in the ACE Guide.

Which Nha Certification Exams Have Been Approved By Ace
The following NHA Certification Exams have been approved BY ACE:
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant 2 semester hours, lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician 2 semester hours, lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category
- Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians 2 hours, vocational category
How do I know if I am eligible?
Only certification holders that have successfully passed an NHA ACE approved exam from Jan. 1, 2020 to present are eligible to apply for ACE credit. It is NOT retroactive prior to 2020. ACE exam approvals are good for three years.

Rule : When One Ace Credit Source Has A Partnership Agreement With A College It Is Reasonable To Infer That The Same College Will Also Accept Other Ace Credit Sources
If you visit each ACE providers website, you can find their partnership agreements. Here is a small sample of ACE providers:
As you browse the lists, youll see that there is some overlap of schools, but there are many listings that appear on only one list. It is my observation, that if a college appears on any list above, youll have an excellent shot at getting them to accept your other sources of ACE credit- at the very least, you should try.
So, the following list is the list I created by merging all known partner college relationships with ACE credit providers I could find. In other words- this list, not the ACE Network list, is probably as close to any real ACE list as youll ever find, and it contains about 145 colleges .

Remember, there is no incentive for businesses to share or merge lists because it is in their best interest for you to use their products and NOT those of their competitor!

Working With Universities To Accept The Recommendation Standard
The next important role that these organizations fill is to help gain acceptance by universities across the country. What good would a credit recommendation be if no university followed it? Luckily, both NCCRS and ACE are well-known resources by universities and accreditors alike, with excellent reputations. Theyre seen as the authorities on evaluating non-collegiate learning, and are well trusted by many colleges across the country. In fact, over 1,400 for NCCRS and 1,800 for ACE! Those are very large networks, and help provide students with confidence that a Credit Recommended program from either organization will be highly considered at schools across the country.
Btw, its a huge benefit for the universities as well, since they dont have to take the time to review every non-collegiate course or prior work experience. Theyre instead able to rely on the NCCRS/ACE standards and utilize those for decision-making.
How To Apply For College Credit For Cbp Training
CBP works with the American Council on Education College Credit and Recommendation Service to gain college credit recommendations for CBP workplace training programs. Using the ACE CREDIT® transcript service, CBP employees may be able to obtain credits for CBP coursework at colleges or universities recognizing the ACE CREDIT® recommendations.

How Can I Earn Ace Credit
To find out if an organization or company you’ve trained with has a recommended credit award, visit the ACE Guide. You can search by organization or by a specific training exam that you have taken. This guide will give you the credit equivalence that you can use to discuss earning credit with your advisor.
For ACE-evaluated credit, students must request and submit to the college an official transcript from ACEin order to receive credit.
What Does It Mean To Be Part Of The Ace Network
As I found out with my oldest son in 2013, being a part of the ACE Network does NOT mean that the college will review ACE credit for you- it might mean that they teach it! Our local community college is on the list, so imagine my surprise when they denied 27 of my sons ACE credits in transfer . I decided to probe deeper and found that our local community college offered a carpentry course through the continuing education department, and successful completion of that course led to 3 ACE credits in carpentry. In other words, our community college was on the list because they taught a course that generated ACE credit, not because they awarded credit for ACE work. Yes, I appealed. No, he didnt receive credit. Ouch.

American Council On Education College Credit Recommendation Service
Training programs in professional settings, industry, the armed forces and other institutions, offer educational opportunities that may be similar in content to Worcester State University courses. Transfer credit may be awarded for professional training programs through credit recommendations made by organizations that have evaluated such programs on the basis of college-level learning. The American Council on Education is the largest organization that evaluates training programs. Students who have completed ACE-evaluated programs, including military service, are encouraged to request an official ACE Transcript for evaluation. Students may not receive transfer credit for professional training if they have already received transfer credit for similar learning at colleges previously attended. What Is Ace Accreditation
ACE CREDIT recommendations are used by students to obtain college credit or advanced college placement for formal courses or exams taken outside the traditional classroom, including the military. Over 60 StraighterLine courses have been recommended for credit by ACE CREDIT, therefore once you have successfully completed a StraighterLine course, you are eligible to receive an ACE Transcript for credit transfer purposes.

Are There Any Drawbacks Or Limitations
Yes, the main issue is that its recommended for credit and not guaranteed for credit. Meaning, the universities whove agreed to participate with either organization cant guarantee its acceptance. Theyre willing to consider it though, and by the nature of their participation, genuinely have a positive intent to do so. Thats the good news. But, its still worth the caveat.
What Does It Mean To Get Credit
Some Saylor Academy courses can be successfully completed and used as transfer credit to colleges and universities from our Degree Completion Partners. Instructions To Receive Ace Credit For An Ace Credit
Rule : Dont Assume That College Personnel Are Familiar With Ace Credit Ace Credit Is Probably The Least Frequent Type Of Credit They Encounter Youll Have To Be Patient And Persistent
As someone constantly tracking this type of information, I am so frustrated when I cant share a list with our membership. Asking for a list is a frequent question, and frankly, there isnt one. So, instead, Ill share what I know- and you can work from there. I have found that several ACE credit sources have credit transfer partnerships with specific colleges. For example, Saylor Academy has partnership agreements with 20 colleges. Those 20 colleges have agreed to accept Saylors courses for college credit. That list is a great list to use as a starting point- which is to say that if those 20 colleges accept Saylor courses, they probablywill accept other ACE evaluated course providers courses! The Alternative Credit Project partnered with 40 schools, and Straighterline another 100+.
