Scholarships: There are many scholarships available, some for students in all fields and some designed specifically for nurses.
If, after graduation, you find work with a nonprofit organization, government agency, or in a region that has a critical shortage of nurses, you might also qualify for student loan forgiveness after a certain period of time.

Are Online Nursing Programs Worth It
You receive the same degree for completing an online nursing program as you would in a residential program. You take the same classes, complete the same assignments, and must pass the same exams. After graduation, you qualify for the same positions and can apply for the same licenses.
Online programs offer extraordinary flexibility, which makes them ideal for busy nurses who want to take the next step in their careers. As a registered nurse, you can earn a bachelors, masters, or even a doctoral degree almost entirely on your own schedule, and from any location with an internet connection. However, students hoping to become a registered nurse may still need to complete their clinical hours in person.
Online programs are also more affordable. Even when schools charge the same tuition to study on campus or online, distance learners can often save on related expenses such as transportation or room and board.

Accreditation is very, very important. These are issued by regulatory bodies that monitor education quality and maintain high standards for schools. Completing a nursing degree from an accredited school is especially important when hoping to advance education at a different school, as many schools will only accept degrees or credits from schools with certain accreditation.
The government regulatory body of accreditation commissions is the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and they recognize 6 agencies when considering schools for regional accreditation. The agencies below are from 2016-2017, so be sure to visit for the most current information.

- Association of Schools and Colleges

- Higher Learning Commission
- New England Association of Schools and Colleges Commission on Institutions of Higher Education

Accelerated Bachelor’s To Bsn
For students who hold a non-nursing Bachelor’s degree, an accelerated nursing program offers a faster way of earning a Bachelor’s degree in nursing. These programs may have a higher standard for admission than traditional programs, such as a minimum 3.0 GPA and a requirement of “hands-on” healthcare volunteer hours, but the waiting list may be shorter than other programs.
Accelerated BSN programs can be completed faster because they omit breaks and often have more intense courses so that they can be completed in a shorter amount of time. Since the same amount of clinical hours are required for any entry-level RN program, they may be scheduled at a grueling pace. For these reasons, many students find this type of program more challenging than traditional programs. Balancing family life and keeping up with friends may also be difficult. However, for the ambitious student who is good at setting priorities, the reward is working as an RN quickly!

Online Nursing Programs Vs On
As far as the quality of studies goes, there are no differences between online and brick-and-mortar schools. Both require commitment and passion and both advance your skills, knowledge, and experience. But there are a few notable differences between online programs and on-campus classrooms. Lets explore some of these differences:
What Are The Goals Of An Rn Degree
A registered nurse program builds the knowledge and skills required for RN careers. During an RN degree, nursing students take classes in anatomy, pharmacology, physiology, and health assessment. They also gain hands-on training through clinical practicums at hospitals and other healthcare settings.
RN students strengthen their core nursing skills while also specializing in areas including pediatrics, emergency care, and surgical nursing. A BSN degree meets the requirements for these nursing specialties and more. After completing coursework and clinical requirements, RN students take the NCLEX-RN exam and apply for a nursing license.

If youve chosen nursing as a career path, youre in good company! Nursing employment is expected to grow faster than the national average between now and 2030, and in 2020, enrollment in nursing programs increased 5.6 percent. The past two years have been challenging for nurses, but one thing is for certain: There are few jobs as fulfilling or important as nursing.
For example, one University of Connecticut sophomore switched her major from education to nursing after watching nurses care for her 84-year-grandmother, who had both COVID-19 and cancer.
They were switching out their protective gear in between every patient, running like crazy trying to make sure all of their patients were attended to, she said. I had that moment of clarity that made me want to jump right into health care and join the workers on the front line.
Becoming a nurse is a challenging, rewarding goal, and getting your associates degree in nursing online is a flexible option for your busy schedule. Heres a breakdown to help you get started:

How Do I Complete Clinicals Practicums And Internships During Online Nursing School
Clinicals, preceptorships, or internships are required for all nursing degrees with the exception of the RN to BSN degree. However, this bridge degree often requires full-time employment as an RN. For these roles, the state requires an exam for licensure, and to be eligible to sit for the exam, clinical hours are required. The requirement varies by state.
For online programs, either the student will be required to find a willing healthcare provider to act as a preceptor, the school will arrange them in the student’s local area, or the student must travel to another area to complete the required hours. The school may have resources to help locate a preceptor and tips on the best ways to approach them.
Clinical hours are not required for RN to BSN courses, but many schools do require the student to work full or part-time as a registered nurse throughout the program.
Check out what we have to say regarding clinical hours during RN school.

Online Nursing Programs & Degrees
Recognizing that students in all programs except our traditional and accelerated BSN program are already RNs, the University of South Alabama was an early adopter in offering fully online RN to BSN, Master of Science in Nursing , RN to MSN, Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees, and fully online Post-Graduate certificate options.
But studying online does not mean youre studying on your own. While you work in your home region, faculty members are on campus, answering emails, refining course work and conferring with colleagues to optimize online learning opportunities.
All online students are paired with preceptors or mentors at the approved clinical facility, or students have the option of completing clinical requirements at a University of South Alabama Health affiliated hospital or clinical facility.
Graduate students seeking credentials in specific specialty options come to campus for intensive skills training, becoming more adept at skills and competencies required for the specialty option. The clinical skill intensive opportunities are held at the state-of-the-art USA Simulation Lab.
The Guide To Online Bachelors In Nursing Programs
Youve thought seriously about earning a bachelors degree in nursing, and about what it would mean to be able to use your medical knowledge and interpersonal skills with patients on a daily basis. However, a full-time, on-campus nursing school might seem out of reach due to family or financial obligations.
Another option to explore is an online Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. An online BSN program can launch your nursing career by preparing you for licensure, which all states require registered nurses to obtain. A bachelors degree in nursing can also help you compete with registered nurses who only hold an associate degree in nursing.

How To Get A Registered Nurse License In Texas
To become an RN, candidates must first graduate from an approved nursing program in Texas. After completion, the school sends an affidavit of graduation directly to the Texas Board of Nursing. Aspiring RNs can then submit an application along with a $100 fee. A criminal background check is also required in addition to passing results of the Texas Nursing Jurisprudence Exam. Candidates should also register to take the NCLEX-RN exam when they send their application to the board.
Once a candidate’s application is approved by the board, the candidate may take the NCLEX-RN exam. Pearson Vue, the NCLEX test administrator, sends verification of the board’s authorization to test, which is available for 75 days. Applicants will receive their RN licenses after they pass the NCLEX.
In Texas, RN license renewals occur every two years. Licensees must complete 20 contact hours of continuing nursing education in the RN’s area of practice during that time. The alternative for this Texas nursing license is to demonstrate achievement of a board-approved national nursing certification, also within the RN’s area of practice. Registered nurses must pay a $65 renewal fee every two years in addition to completing the continuing education requirements.

Attending an accredited school and program proves that your education meets professional standards.
The value placed on online nursing education is no longer in question, says Sanderson. Online students participate in direct patient care as part of their learning, just as on-campus students do. Other measures of success among online-educated nurses are graduation rates, success of licensure and certification examinations, employment rates, and graduate school placement ratesall of which can be compared to on-campus graduates.
