Theyre Usually Cheaper Than Community College Classes
Although it costs $92 to take each AP test, thats all you need to pay for the entire class. Even though community college classes are inexpensive compared to four-year college classes, theyll probably cost you more than an AP test, especially if you dont live in the same district as the community college. Some high schools help students pay for community college classes, but others will leave it up to you to take care of the costs. If money is a concern, AP classes may be a better choice for you.

How Do I Earn College Credit In High School
Sierra College offers different ways to earn college credit for students still in high school, either at a participating high school or at Sierra College. Both options are tuition-free and the credits you earn may even count at both schools. Taking college classes in high school can save you time and money, and it helps prepare you for college.
Plus, if you decide to attend a two-year California Community College following graduation from high school, earning college credit now will not affect your eligibility for Two Years Free.

Who is eligible?
- Students who attend a high school or adult school, which have a current Academic Enrichment Compliance Form on file with our Admissions and Records office, or
- Students who provide an affidavit indicating they are legally home-schooled or attending a charter school, which have a current Academic Enrichment Compliance form on file with our Admissions and Records office
- Students must have completed the equivalent of 8th grade and be in good academic standing

- Accept College Terms and Condition. Log into your mySierra and click on the Terms and Conditions link to accept.
- Register for classes in mySierra

International Baccalaureate Diploma Program
The International Baccalaureate Program uses a similar approach to Cambridge AICE but assesses different content areas and takes around two years to complete. Graduates receive an internationally recognized diploma that demonstrates proficiency and skill in three core elements and a single subject as chosen by each student. Options include math, science, or the arts. Only approved schools can administer IB diploma programming.
IB exam sections are scored on a 1-7 scale and include in each course or program area. IB combines individual assessment scores to calculate a final diploma result. Diploma-seekers need at least 24 points.
Over 3,000 colleges and universities throughout the world accept IB diploma transcripts, but as with other methods of earning college credits in high school, individual policies vary.

Can I Take College Courses Without Getting A Degree
There are many courses that are on a non-degree basis. Like you can study any other students in your class but you wont be able to complete any credential program or get any credits or certificates. It gives them permission for just only attend classes.
So if you are one of those people who just and to take classes for further education, then you can take college classes without getting a degree. It is because these programs are only for non-degree seekers. There are many colleges where they have this type of program. You only have to pay for the classes you are attending.
How Placement Or Sat/act Scores Determine Educational Skill Level
It doesnt matter what your major is, math and reading will be required. Just how much math and reading all depends on your major. Majors in the STEM field will require higher levels of math and science. Humanities will require less. Your test score will determine if you can take the class listed in your major.
For example, lets say you need to take College Algebra for your major. There are 2 ways you can determine you are qualified for that class.
- You score certain number on math portion of ACT/SAT or
- You take placement test and score certain score for math section

Paying For Your Classes At Ppcc
As a visiting student, you are not eligible for aid through PPCC but
- if you are currently receiving financial aid at your home institution, where you are pursuing a degree, and
- if you are taking classes at PPCC that you plan to transfer to your home institution for your degree
you can contact the Financial Aid Office at your home institution to determine if your PPCC classes are eligible for financial aid.
If you plan to pay out of pocket for your summer classes, please make payment arrangements with our Student Accounts Office if you have not already done so.

How Does Getting A Certificate At A Community College Work
Community college is a public college where you can complete your education affordably. They dont have regular programs like the other institute. Instead, they give a certificate that will help you to complete your education through a degree program. After then, you can do whatever you want to do for your future education. In the Higher Ed report, there is 20% of students receive a certificate based on an associate degree, and others 13% completed their bachelors degree. Getting a certificate, can demand the specific skills of your knowledge. A certificate works like evidence of the completed education of a student.
Instances You Will Need To Take Act/sat At A Community College
Now listen up you might not be free from completely taking the ACT/SAT. There are some incidents that will require you to take ACT/SAT even in a community college.
Selective Admission Programs
Community colleges have selective admission programs. These programs usually are Associate Degree programs and can lead to job opportunities right after graduation. To be accepted, students must take a year for prerequisite courses. These are highly competitive and students need to have really good grades.
For MOST of these programs ACT/SAT is not required, but it could be for some. For example, in my community college, anyone who is applying for a nursing program will need to have taken the ACT/SAT.
Again, this all depends on the community college. So keep your eye open if you are interested in the Selective Admission Program.

Early College Assistance Grant
Montco is offering a limited number of high school students the opportunity to enroll and receive free tuition* for up to two courses by applying to and being awarded our Early College Assistance Grant.
Applications will be accepted from Monday, November 1 at 9 a.m. through Friday, January 7, 2022, at 4 p.m. Grants will be reviewed by the grant committee. Applicants will be notified January 12 via email of their award status.
To be eligible for the grant, you must:
- Be a returning or first-time Dual Enrollment student at Montco
- Attend a high school within a Montgomery County public school district or live within a Montgomery County public school district if you are homeschooled
- Exhibit financial need
- Upper Perkiomen
- Wissahickon
*If awarded, some course restrictions may apply based on availability and prerequisites. All cost exclusions apply, including textbooks or other required course fees.

Getting A Head Start On College Credits Can Save You Time And Money
Depending upon your eventual choice of college for your bachelors degree, the college credits that you complete over the summer may transfer to the college that you end up attending. If these credits can be applied to your degree requirements, you may be able to graduate from college earlyand since community-college courses generally cost less per credit-hour than courses at a four-year college, this can save you money.
Who Can Take Dual Enrollment Classes
High school juniors and seniors or the home-schooled equivalent are eligible to participate in dual enrollment classes. In order to take these courses, you must demonstrate competence in reading, writing and math.
VCCS policy allows colleges to consider exceptional freshman and sophomore students who demonstrate readiness for college-level coursework through the colleges established institutional policies. Each underclass student will be considered on a case-by-case basis. See the enrollment section or the Dual Enrollment Manual for specific information.

Most students do not have to pay for the classes they take in high school, and it can be difficult to afford the tuition required for college classes. Even though community college classes are typically less expensive than regular 4-year colleges, tuition is still usually at least $100 per credit hour, which means taking one community college class can cost several hundred dollars or more.
Sometimes high schools will pay for their students to take community college classes, especially if they don’t offer a particular class themselves. Ask your academic adviser what your school’s policy is for covering the costs of community college classes. If they do help with costs, this can save you thousands of dollars!
However, if your high school doesn’t cover community college costs, be sure to choose your community college classes carefully so you know you are getting the best value for your money. Also, if your high school offers a similar course, such as an AP class, you may want to consider taking that instead.
