The Admiral Mike Boorda Loan Program provides an interest-free loan for education expenses. Loans range from $500 to $3,000 per academic year, and they can be used to pay for tuition, books, and fees.

After graduation from recruit training, Marines attend the School of Infantry . Those with an Infantry Military Occupational Specialty are trained at Infantry Training Battalion over the course of 52 days, and those with a non-Infantry MOS are trained at Marine Combat Training Battalion over the course of 29 days. Upon completion of SOI, non-Infantry MOS Marines attend their MOS school, which entail differing lengths, graduation requirements, and locations. All Marines are then assigned to a unit with a Permanent Duty Station and may be deployed overseas if their unit is ordered to do so. < p> USNA is the service academy of choice if your plan is to become a Marine officer by way of a service academy. Currently, up to 20% of the graduates from each USNA graduating class can be commissioned as Marine 2nd Lts, versus as Navy Ensigns. The allowed percentage of Marines can change from year to year until the past couple of years, the limit was 16-17% of a graduating class.< /p>

There are a number of factors to consider before you commit to attending a military college as opposed to going to a regular college. Can I Afford To Go To School While Im On Active Duty
Active-duty servicemembers are eligible for Military Tuition Assistance, the most common form of military financial aid assistance. The program pays up to $4,500 each fiscal year for tuition and other school expenses, aid that can serve as an important motivator for students.
If someone in the military has served long enough, they may become eligible for GI Bill benefits. However, these benefits have a few limitations for those on active-duty. Spittler explains one caveat: the housing allowance isnt available to those still serving.
With the GI Bill, theyre not going to get the housing allowance because theyre already getting that in the military, Spittler says.
The GI Bill is more likely to come into play during active reserve duty when members of the military can use the GI Bill for on-site classes. The GI Bill is also popular among veteran students. In addition, all or part of any unused GI Bill education benefits can be gifted to a spouse as long as the request is completed while the servicemember is an active member of the armed forces.
These financial perks are motivators for active-duty servicemembers to enroll in college, Spittler says. Another financial boost can come from increased rank and pay. For example, Spittler explains if someone is moving closer to a bachelors degree, they do get points toward moving up in the ranks and being promoted to the next rank.

Supervision Of The Academy
In 1850, the academy was placed under the jurisdiction of the Navy’s Bureau of Ordnance and Hydrography but was transferred to the Bureau of Navigation when that organization was established in 1862. The academy was placed under the direct care of the Navy Department in 1867, but for many years the Bureau of Navigation provided administrative routine and financial management.
As of 2004, the Superintendent of the Naval Academy reports directly to the Chief of Naval Operations. The current superintendent is Vice Admiral Sean S. Buck.
The current commandant of midshipmen is Colonel James P. McDonough III, USMC , a career artillery officer and the academy’s 89th commandant.

What Obstacles Do Active
Active duty servicemembers always face the chance of deployment. What if a student starts classes and then gets deployment orders, orders to go to training, or are temporarily assigned elsewhere? Spittler says NU has military-friendly policies in place to help their students navigate such issues.
Active-duty servicemembers also may have irregular schedules that make even online education difficult to sustain, such as 24-hour shifts, followed by an immediate call back to work.
Not all military work is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., which are typical military hours, she says. Advisors are available when these students need options and solutions. Sometimes military students need to drop a class, but again, the four-week monthly start format of National classes provides many opportunities for students to jump back in when they are ready. Other students may need to drop classes for a period of time when their annual Tuition Assistance runs out or when they cant afford the books required for a class.

Undergraduates who attend the college will experience a historic campus called the Yard. According to their site, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy.
