How Many Black Doctors Graduated From Hbcus

More than 80% of African-American doctors in the US these days graduated from two HBCUs with medical programs: Howard University and Meharry Medical College. Only 4% of doctors in the country are blacks. Xavier University of Louisiana produces the most African-American medical school graduates.

There are various HBCUs offering medical programs. However, only a handful of them are known to offer the best medical programs, and the majority of todays black doctors earned their medical degrees from them.

Graduating from medical school is only the first step. To be able to apply for a medical license and practice medicine legally in the US, medical school graduates have to take and successfully pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination . Also known as the step exams, the USMLE consists of three sets of board exams.

Its because of these rigorous exams why its a good idea to attend a good medical school.

Luckily, there are numerous historically black colleges whose medical programs are admired and respected. Needless to say, you should consider applying to any one of them if you want to be an HBCU graduate and a licensed medical doctor one day. Some of the best HBCU medical programs come from the following:

While there are HBCUs that produce the majority of the countrys African-American doctors, there are also non-HBCUs with medical schools that have a lot of black students taking medicine programs. They are:

How Does Morehouse College Compare With Other Schools

Acceptance rate-wise, Morehouse College is better than most other HBCUs, as applicants have better chances of gaining admission into it. The school has higher retention and graduation rates than a lot of HBCUs, but it tends to have steeper tuition, fewer majors, and a smaller campus than many HBCUs.

Morehouse is a standout in the sense that its the only all-male HBCU in the nation. And, since 2020, the historically black college has approved a policy welcoming transgender men into its campus.

Overall Morehouse College is a great school but it needs many improvements relating to housing, food, financial services, organization, and academics. The city of Atlanta houses Morehouse so there are a lot of opportunities outside of campus but you must really search for them. Also Morehouse is so stuck on traditions and ethics from a hundred years ago which arent reasonable in todays time.

How Do We Determine The Best Liberal Arts Colleges And Universities

Concentrated Influence takes the combined influence score of a college or universitys top academic influencers and divides it by the schools total number of undergraduates.

Using concentrated influence gives small and mid-sized schools an opportunity to shine by taking away the size advantage of larger universities. A small school with proportionately more influential faculty than a large school, whose influence in absolute terms may be bigger, will nonetheless score higher in a concentrated influence ranking. Our approach highlights undergraduate schools that truly rank for excellence, regardless of size.

If you are serious about finding the best colleges and universities for a bachelors degree, you should be asking where the most influential professors are teaching and whether their graduates are themselves advancing the schools reputation for academic excellence.

Most ranking sites rely on an opaque combination of reputation surveys and arbitrary performance metrics. Concentrated Influence provides a ranking that is free from bias, insulated from manipulation, and reflective of real-world educational outcomes.

    Regulation Of Campus Attire

Morehouse College: Rankings, Courses, Admissions, Tuition ...

In October 2009, Morehouse College initiated a campus wide attire policy that prohibits students from wearing women’s clothes, jewelry on their teeth, pajamas as classroom attire, du-rags or bandanas on their heads, or pants which hang below the waist at official college-sponsored events. This dress code is part of the Five Wells which holds that “Morehouse Men are Renaissance Men with a social conscience and global perspective who are Well-Read, Well-Spoken, Well-Traveled, Well-Dressed and Well-Balanced.” William Bynum, vice president for Student Services was quoted by CNN as saying, “We are talking about five students who are living a gay lifestyle that is leading them to dress a way we do not expect in Morehouse men.” These remarks and the attire policy itself have been the source of great controversy both on and off the campus. Then-university president Robert Michael Franklin Jr. sent out an email to the schools’ alumni, clarifying that the university’s attire policy was not intended as an affront to gay students.

    Is Morehouse College Test

Unlike most US colleges and universities, Morehouse College is not test-optional. This means that all applicants must submit their SAT or ACT scores. Also, their standardized test scores must meet the schools minimum requirement: an SAT score between 1020 and 1140 and an ACT score between 18 and 22.

Although Morehouse has a very high acceptance rate, unfortunately, it doesnt have a test-optional admissions process like other schools, many of which are highly selective.

So, in other words, you dont have a choice but to submit either your SAT or ACT score together with the rest of your application. If you took the SAT or ACT multiple times, consider submitting all your scores. Its because Morehouse College superscores test scores, which means that it will consider only your highest section scores across all test dates.

Worry not if you are unhappy with your test scores, as Morehouse doesnt require applicants to have incredibly high SAT or ACT scores. As mentioned earlier, it accepts students with 1020 to 1140 SAT scores or with 18 to 22 ACT scores. Most HBCUs require applicants to have these scores for admission and scholarship purposes, too.
