The Ohio State volleyball program continued its record streak of 14 consecutive weeks ranked inside the top 10 of the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, placing No. 9 as the regular season concluded.

Mac Podraza was named Big Ten setter of the week after totaling 87 assists, adding 11 digs, four kills and a two blocks in wins over Rutgers and Maryland.

How Mount Union Became College Football’s Newest Cradle Of Coaches

ALLIANCE, Ohio — On a late July day in 1999, Matt Campbell drove along U.S. Route 62, unsure of his next football destination.

He knew he couldn’t go back to Pitt for another season. The football program there had turned toxic. So Campbell packed up and left. He wasn’t far from his home near Canton when he first saw them by chance: about 60 young men, crossing the four-lane highway that flanks the campus of the University of Mount Union, headed for a workout at the stadium.

“It was a fascinating moment,” Campbell said. “Here’s where there are no scholarships, there is no money, there is no flash, but these guys love football.”

Campbell wanted in. He transferred to Mount Union and became an All-American defensive lineman. Then he entered coaching.

“It saved my life,” said Campbell, who is entering his third season as Iowa State’s coach. “That’s how passionate I am about my Mount Union experience and coach Kehres. My life probably goes a whole different way if not for finding that place.”

Campbell is among a growing group who found Mount Union as players and, after graduating, launched coaching careers. Mount Union claims two FBS head coaches in Campbell and Toledo’s Jason Candle, coordinators such as Ohio State’s Alex Grinch and Wake Forest’s Jay Sawvel, position coaches such as Michigan’s Ed Warinner, an NFL coordinator in the Indianapolis Colts’ Nick Sirianni and many others leading small-college and high school teams.

On February 19, 1803, U.S. president signed an act of Congress that approved Ohio’s boundaries and constitution. Division Iii Schools With Division I Programs

Ten DIII schools currently field programs in one or two sports, one maximum for each gender.

Five of them are schools that have traditionally competed at the highest level of a particular men’s sport prior to the institution of the three division classifications in 1973, a decade before the NCAA governed women’s sports. Presumably due to considerations, grandfathered schools are also allowed to field one women’s sport in Division I, and all five schools choose to do so. These schools are allowed to offer athletic scholarships in their Division I men’s and women’s sports only.

Three formerly grandfathered schools moved completely to Division III. University Of Mount Union

Mount Union was founded in 1846 by Orville Nelson Hartshorn as a place where both men and women could be receive an education regardless of sex, race or position in life. Although Mount Union was not created through the efforts of the church, Hartshorn and other early faculty members were dedicated Methodist laymen. For more than 100 years, Mount Union has been associated with the Methodist Church. It still remains strongly associated with the United Methodist Church.
