It depends on the scholarship you’re applying for. National scholarships will have larger applicant pools than state or major-specific scholarships, but they are all judged on specific sets of requirements. If you follow the criteria, you will have a better chance of winning than someone who doesn’t the same goes for students who observe deadlines versus students who submit their applications late. You won’t win a scholarship because of who you know you’ll earn it based on how well you follow directions, meet deadlines, and the caliber of your responses.
How To Afford Expensive Schools
If youre an average high schooler, getting enough money to afford to attend an expensive or prestigious school can seem overwhelming. Sure, if you can get in, top-tier universities will take care of you in a number of ways. And yes, if youre good enough includes incredibly complex socio-economic connotations, all of which we cant address here. I simply want to highlight the mistaken belief that money is holding students back from attending top-tier colleges because of tuition costs.
No. Its not. If youre good enough to get in, top-tier universities will take care of you, financially as well by helping you get a higher salary and a built-in network. Remember, college is not a technical school. Theres more to it than assessing how much money youll make once you graduate like so many people try to claim. There are ineffable qualities to being surrounded by an extremely high caliber of peers.
Im not even saying, Go to a top-tier university . But dont be afraid to apply to them just because of money. In fact, tuition should be one of the LAST decisions you make. Stop thinking about the money upfront. First, focus on getting into the best schools possible, whatever that means for you. Once you secure admission, worry about the finances by using the advice in this article to get lots of scholarship money.
Remember, if youve been accepted, the universities want you there, and they have large scholarship funds to ensure that you enroll at their school.

One of the most important aspects of your scholarship application is following instructions, from start to finish! Read the instructions for writing your essay as well. If the application requires a word count limit, stay within that limit. If you need to write an essay and submit a media piece, such as a video or photo, send it in!

This is the âkick-offâ of scholarship season for the following school year. While you may be able to find a few late deadlines in August to receive money for that immediate fall semester, most deadlines will be for money for the following school year.
For example, if it is August 2021, then most scholarships will open for the following school year. So August 2021 applications would result in money for college for the 2022-2023 school year.
In our experience, major deadline months include October and December. The holiday break is perfect timing to wrap up final applications for the year.

Though the terms “scholarship” and “grant” are often used interchangeably, there are a few differences between the two. They are both considered “free money”, but in the majority of cases scholarships are awarded to students who are planning to attend or are already enrolled in some form of postsecondary education. We actually started our own scholarship fund for our course members in summer 2016 and personally decided to have a late deadline. We know what itâs like to be in the last few months, scrambling for the final dollars, so we decided this would be most helpful.
The one challenge to the summer months is your child wonât be the only one who may have procrastinated and is rushing to apply, which could mean more competition.
Still, if they are in need of some extra dollars for the fall, or if you are ahead of the game and your child is going to perhaps the following year or later, then do not ignore the process during June and July because there ARE scholarships out there with deadlines these months!

If your child is in 10th grade OR younger
If your child is in 10th grade or younger, you may be surprised to they should be looking for scholarships. As I mentioned earlier, scholarships are available to children as young as 4 years old. Here is a list of scholarships for children from 5 to 25 years old.
While this may seem a bit early, itâs helpful to start looking now so you and your child know what you are getting into. And it certainly doesnât hurt to secure a few dollars ahead of time!
