Master Of Science In Nursing

Master of Science in Nursing Degree Program:

The MSN Degree Program is designed to prepare Baccalaureate Nursing graduates for post-licensure education. Graduates of the program will earn a Master of Science in Nursing degree with a focus in nursing education and leadership. The MSN program consists of a total of 56 quarter credit hours, which can be completed in as little as 15-18 months. The curriculum design includes core courses that would allow students to pursue a post-graduate certificate.

It is highly recommended that students obtain experience working as a Certified Nursing Assistant before they apply to this program. This on-campus accelerated nursing program generally serves students who have maintained a high G.P.A while completing some or all of the required prerequisite courses and can transfer their credits to MSU Denver. Our Accelerated Nursing Option is a very competitive Bachelor of Science program. Students who pursue the Accelerated Nursing option must have a previous baccalaureate degree, successfully transfer or complete prerequisite courses, take the HESI exam, and demonstrate a 3.0 G.P.A. for prior and prerequisite course work. Students who pursue the Accelerated Nursing must first apply and be accepted to MSU Denver as Nursing .

How Many Students Are In A Class

On-Campus Programs – At Denver College of Nursing, all on-campus programs include traditional didactic classes in the classroom, classes in the learning skills lab, and clinical classes at appropriate health care facilities. At DCN you’ll find that our class sizes are smaller than most universities. Classes are scheduled per starting cohort of students and students track through the program together in all didactic, lab and clinical classes for the length of their program. This allows students to form friendships, study groups, and groups that may carpool together.

Online Program – Online class sizes in the RN to BSN and MSN programs are limited to 25 students, and most classes will have 20 students or less. Online programs do not include traditional lab or clinical experiences however, experiential learning is included as an assignment in some courses.

Bachelor Of Science In Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is for the student who has already completed prerequisites. The program is 21 months in length, at a full-time status.

Requirements and Prerequisites

Without a prior Baccalaureate Degree

Applicants without a prior baccalaureate degree must show completion of all prerequisite courses that include a minimum of 56 semester credits of post-secondary coursework from an accredited institution . This includes 40 semester credits of prerequisites with a grade of C or better and a GPA of 2.0 or better.

With a prior Baccalaureate Degree

Applicants who already possess a baccalaureate degree must show satisfactory completion of 21 semester credits from an accredited institution with a GPA of 2.0 or better and with grades of C or above. Applicants that have already graduated with a Bachelors degree from an accredited college do not have to take the HESI A2 entrance exam.

Interested Accelerated Nursing Option students must apply and be accepted to MSU Denver as Nursing before taking any other steps.

  • Complete an online application and select the Nursing major. All nursing students must begin their application as Nursing .
  • Provide MSU Denver Admissions with AP scores.
  • Once accepted to MSU as a Nursing student, you can begin working on the Six Step ANO Application Process which includes completing a number of pre-requisite courses.

    • One-page typewritten personal statement addressing the professional goals, healthcare related work background and volunteer experience
