Preparing For Success After High School With Career Technical Education
The Career Technical Education courses offered by Pearson Online Academy allow students to combine both college preparation and workforce skills development into one customized education program. These courses encourage students to explore and prepare for careers in business, marketing, psychology, criminal justice, medicine, and more.
Students enrolled in our Career Technical Education high school courses gain thorough technical knowledge and skills training, supplemented by a strong academic foundation and real-world experience. Our programs of study are organized by career clusters, which include distinct groupings of occupations and industries based on the knowledge and skills they require. These clusters branch into career pathways to help students narrow their interests further and design an education plan for achieving career goals.
Honors Classes And Honor Society
Honors classes cover more material at a faster pace than typical college courses. This prepares a student for the quick clip of college courses. A slew of honors classes on your college application shows that you are a competent and disciplined student ready to take on the often arduous demands of more in-depth college classes.
While most honors classes wont turn into college credit, they do prepare the students to excel at the rudimentary courses they may need to slog through in their freshman year.
Honors classes will also prepare you to do well on the ACT exam. The average ACT score is 21. An ACT score of 30 or above can help you to gain college credits, depending on the institution.

What Is A College Prep Course

A college prep course is a course specifically designed for students planning on attending college after high school. Though some of your classmates may take general education classes that meet the minimum requirements for graduation in your state, prep courses are more involved and more in-depth. These courses address some of the same topics you would study in college and help you understand the importance of developing proper study habits and effectively managing your time. Even if your school does not offer prep courses, you may have the chance to take some of these classes.

Are There Accommodations For Disabilities
While accommodations for disabilities can be made, the College Board asks that students with disabilities obtain prior approval. This approval can take up to seven weeks to come through, so its important to submit requests early. Its also worth noting that if accommodations are made without approval, students scores will be canceled.

What To Ask When Considering A College Preparatory School
If you have decided a college preparatory school is what your child needs, make sure you can answer the following questions:
What Is College Prep
A four-year high school designed to prepare students for undergraduate studies is a college preparatory school. These can be public schools, private schools, parochial institutions, and even charter schools. They provide college counseling, advise through the admissions process, help students prepare for enrollment, and all the other small details that go into college admissions.
In some cases, these schools begin in elementary or middle school, funneling into the final levels. Students begin prep classes and learn to master necessary standardized tests with test prep. They often include athletics for students seeking scholarships and spend the school year ensuring students receive a well-rounded education as well as specific training for how to enter and succeed in college.

What About Online Courses
The cornerstone of any college prep program is the opportunity to experience academics at the college level. But a pre-college program is not the only way to achieve that experience.
If the academic experience is your only goal, you may want to consider taking one or more online college courses instead of attending a full-scale summer program. Many community colleges and even some universities allow high school students to take online classes over the summer.
And if finances are an issue, there are a plethora of free online courses in many areas of study, making it increasingly easy for you to try before you buy. By taking free online courses, you can easily sample departments and majors before you step onto a college campus.
And as with paid online courses, there are plenty of choices when it comes to free offerings as well. Harvard offers free course content via edX. Khan Academy and Coursera are other popular options.

College Prep Vs Honors/ap Vs Remedial Classes
Because “college prep” refers to the core set of high school classes, this term has basically become the way to identify the standard class level. College Prep is the class you will take when you are not being challenged by the honors or AP version of a class, and when you are not placed into the remedial version of the class for catch-up.

Preparatory Schools: Pro And Con
Supporters argue that college degrees lead to higher earnings and better prepare students to excel in a career. A school that makes the assumption that everyone is going to college puts more students on a path to succeed in a competitive global workforce.
Detractors contend that the term college prep is so indiscriminantly used that it doesnt mean much. In some states, anyone can hang a shingle and call themselves a college prep high school, Nassirian says. The level of oversight is all over the map. Its up to parents to differentiate between a program that actually teaches students what they need to succeed in college and one that merely pays lip service to the task. Most importantly, its up to parents to decide if a college prep school one that genuinely prepares their child for college is the right fit.
