Galen College Of Nursing Receives Acen Programmatic Accreditation For Cincinnati Campus

Cincinnati campus granted programmatic accreditation for Associate Degree in Nursing

CINCINNATI—-Galen College of Nursing is pleased to announce the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing has granted programmatic accreditation to its Associate Degree in Nursing program at the Cincinnati, Ohio campus.

The ACEN programmatic accreditation is specific to nursing and affirms that the program is committed to quality standards in the area of curriculum, outcomes, faculty, governance, resources, and students. It is a form of self-regulation and evaluates a specific program against a set of nationally normed criteria.

The extensive accreditation process began in 2013, when Candidacy was granted, continued with a two-year self-study submitted in 2015, and culminated in an Accreditation Site Visit, which made a recommendation for accreditation. This recommendation was affirmed by an Evaluation Review Panel in June, and then approved by the ACEN Board of Commissioners in July 2016.

By obtaining ACEN accreditation for our Cincinnati program, we are externally validating our program for our students, academic and healthcare peers and our community, said Dean, Melisa Lepard, MSN, RN. Were constantly striving for the highest quality in nursing education, and are pleased to have our Cincinnati campus among the others recognized for those efforts.

How Can I Know If My Nursing School Is Accredited

With the shortage of nurses, there are many nursing programs available, some online as well as traditional nursing colleges. There are also many for-profit schools offering quick courses and guaranteeing jobs immediately after graduation. You dont need to go to an accredited school to work as a nurse, but some employers, faced with two candidates for a job, will choose one from an accredited school. Transitioning to a higher nursing degree is easier if your degree is from a school with accreditation. Plus, many scholarships are only available to students at accredited nursing schools, so it is important to know if, and how, a school is accredited.

Faqs On Transcripts And Transferring

Does WGU require transcript submissions of prior college work?

Yes. Transcripts are used by your program mentor to help develop your personalized degree plan. WGU requires that official transcripts of previous academic work completed at other colleges or graduate schools be submitted for evaluation. It is your obligation to request official transcripts from the institutions you have attended when applying for admission. At the present time, we dont require a minimum grade point average or SAT/ACT scores for admission.

Do graduate students need to submit transcripts?

Who reviews my transcripts? How long does it take?

Your official transcripts will be evaluated by a member of the Transcripts Department. The time it takes to review your transcripts and report which subject areas are cleared will vary. We will inform you via email when your transcripts arrive, and we endeavor to report transfer decisions through your Enrollment Counselor within two weeks of that date.

What is the deadline for transcript submission?

Because your mentor will use your transcripts to help develop your personalized Degree Plan, it is important we receive official transcripts directly from all the colleges and universities you have previously attended no later than the 1st of the month prior to your intended start date. WGU will not award transfer credit based upon the work identified by transcripts received after your start date.

Can I submit unofficial copies of transcripts?

Transfer Of Credit Procedures

Galen College of Nursing Recognized For 25 Years of National Accreditation

The Dean of Academic Affairs evaluates transcripts and determines potential transfer credit granted to students. The following guidelines are used in evaluating transcripts received from other accredited institutions:

  • Official transcripts must be received directly from the former institution within a students first semester or no transfer credits are officially granted.
  • Course descriptions from a former institutions catalog are analyzed and credit is accepted for those successfully completed courses that parallel course content and duration of Keiser University courses. Courses in a students major must meet the same general course objectives as Keiser University courses.
  • Only courses with a grade of C or higher are considered for transfer credit.
  • Approved articulation agreements with other colleges are recognized for transfer of credit.

What Are The Differences Between Ccne And Acen Accreditation

Both the CCNE and ACEN meet national standards with neither truly being better than the other. The CCNE uses more self-regulation through self-reflection and assessment while the ACEN follows a strict set of guidelines. Furthermore, the ACEN is an older organization and has accredited nursing programs longer than the CCNE.

The CCNE only accredited bachelor and masters degree programs while the ACEN accredits all levels of nursing programs from practical to doctorate. Furthermore, the ACEN works closely with government agencies to provide additional assistance to nursing students which can be important. These services include financial aid, counseling, and job search services.
