Does Excelsior College Accept Financial Aid

Excelsior College accepts financial aid and has a wide variety of programs and services to provide adult learners access to affordable education. Besides federal and state financial aid, the online school also has institutional and external scholarships. Excelsior College recommends submitting the FAFSA four weeks before registration.

Filling out the FAFSA is the very first step to take to know whether or not you are eligible for scholarships, grants, loans and even work-study funding.

At Excelsior College, students residing in the Empire State may also apply for New York State financial aid.

Eligible students are New York residents enrolled in an online degree program at Excelsior College and taking three to eleven credits per semester. Those who qualify will receive $1,000 per semester or the total cost of tuition, whichever of the two is less. Unfortunately, the award cannot be applied to expenses other than tuition.

There are plenty of institutional aids available at Excelsior College, such as:

  • AXA Foundation Scholarship Fund
  • Excelsior College Scholarship Endowment Fund
  • Fred L. Emerson Foundation Scholarship Fund
  • Kushner and Lindholm Family Scholarship Endowment Fund
  • Summo Endowment Fund
  • Whitney-Teeple Scholarship Fund

Besides aid in the form of scholarships, grants and others, Excelsior College also offers various payment plans for adult learners who are on a tight budget.

S To Transferring Your College Credits

Every schools college transfer requirements may be different. That being said, there are some general steps you could follow to transfer your credits.

  • Meet with your academic adviser: Discuss your transfer goals and how to transfer schools. Make sure it makes academic and financial sense.
  • Fill out a transfer application: It may not be the same kind of application that other first year students use. If you have trouble finding the right application, email or call the schools admissions office. Thats what theyre there for.
  • Get good grades: College credit transfers will vary depending on the school youre applying to, but most schools expect you to have earned a certain amount of credits in order to transfer. Some schools may also have a minimum GPA. Low GPA? No problem! Check out our list of colleges that !
  • Contact the right department: For example, the science department if youre looking to major in Biology. Find out if you are able to send your transcript for review to determine how many and which credits will transfer to your new program.
  • Obtain letters of recommendation: Ask your professors about this early so they have enough time to complete and submit them on your behalf. You may be able to submit high school letters, but the school youre applying to will want to hear from teachers youve most recently studied in at the college level.
  • Be on Time: Being late with deadlines is not a great first impression in the transfer process.

Do Community College Credits Transfer Out Of State

    3+1 Partnership with Excelsior College

Formal transfer agreements are rare between public schools in different states. Without an agreement, the transfer eligibility for each course may be assessed individually.

If you transfer from a regionally accredited community college, your new school may accept credit for the core courses in your field of study. They may also accept some electives if they directly mirror courses offered at the new school. Another option may be an online college. Some online colleges may have out of state agreements with state wide public two year colleges.

How Many Transfer Credits Does Excelsior College Accept

One of the goals of Excelsior College is to make it easy for adult learners to go back to school and earn a degree. This is evidenced by the fact that the online school will accept up to a total of 113 transfer credits. However, as expected, how many credits will actually be honored varies from program to program.

Generally speaking, up to 60 credits earned from a community college and anywhere from 60 to 90 credits earned from a four-year institution may be applied toward a degree.

At Excelsior College, a maximum of 113 credits can be transferred, which is more than what most schools will accept.

However, there are credit transfer policies that apply.

For instance, the credits should have been earned from a regionally accredited school just like Excelsior College itself earlier, we mentioned the fact that one of the benefits of attending an institution with regional accreditation is practically trouble-free transfer of earned credits.

Also, its important for the credits to be from courses that are comparable in content and quality to courses offered by Excelsior College in order for them to be accepted.

What Colleges Accept Credits From Excelsior College

Excelsior is a private, regionally accredited college and therefore any online courses you complete at the college can be transferred to other accredited US colleges. Each college is likely to have their own credits transfer policies and credits transfer is generally accepted when there is a close match in course curriculum between the prior course and the similar course at the accepting college.

Do Ds Transfer From Community College

Many schools ask for a C grade or better in order to transfer credits. But, there are ways you may still be able to transfer without losing credit for those courses where you earned a D. First, check the transfer policy of the school you want to go to. They may have a flexible policy on accepting credits for Ds. If not, you may want to meet with the college to see what options are available to you.

Second, consider staying at your community college long enough to earn your Associates degree. After you earn that degree, you can apply to a four year school knowing that your credits may transfer in a block. When you transfer credits as a block, individual grades may not be evaluated.
