Once you know what bachelors degree you want, what school you want to get it from, which community college is the best choice for your chosen university, and what kind of transfer agreement the two schools have, its time to put your plan together.
This is the part that, unfortunately, I cant coach you through. Every university and degree requirement is so different that youll probably be spending a significant amount of time researching, thinking, and trouble-shooting as you try to understand which community college courses are safe and which arent.
Fortunately, while I cant coach you through this step, youre not completely alone. Once youve done your absolute best to build your credit-transfer plan, you can take this plan to your chosen universitys college advisor to ensure your plan will actually work.
Note that I said your universitys advisor, not your community colleges advisor. A community college advisor cannot help you with this step. As I mentioned earlier, their job isnt to help you transfer credit between colleges, its to enroll you in an associate degree program, so asking them for credit-transfer advice will be fruitless and frustrating. Instead, talk to an advisor at the university you want to graduate from. Have them review your plan and tell you whether or not these courses will transfer.
How Recent Must Be Ap Scores To Be Considered For Ap Credit
< p> I just read on another CC thread that some schools do not consider SAT II scores more than 3 yrs old. For instance, an outstanding Math SAT II taken in 8th grade is no longer acceptable 4 years later, when the student applies as a high school senior. The student must retake the test and submit a new score. It occurred to me that there might be some related questions about AP scores. So:< /p>
< p> 1) Are there any colleges that put a similar limit on the time validity of AP scores when considered for AP credit? Say a student obtained an AP score at the end of 9th grade. Will that score be given the same consideration for AP credit as more recent scores when the student enrolls in college 4 years later? < p> As to what you may have seen for SAT, be aware that colleges do not use for admission any SAT taken in 8th grade or before. That has long been a rule and is not something new. < /p>

The University of Oregon only accepts transfer credit that is received directly from regionally accredited colleges and universities. Transcripts received as email attachments are not considered official. Credits earned at junior colleges and community colleges are always transferred at the lower division level. Credits earned at a four-year institution are transferred at both the lower and upper-division credit, depending on what level the original course was taught.
Students may transfer in an unlimited number of credits to clear degree requirements, but only 124 credits from junior or community colleges will be counted toward the total number of credits required for the degree . Remember that students must earn a minimum number of upper-division credits in order to graduate. Therefore, students who transfer the full 124 credits from a community college will ultimately graduate with more than the required minimum of 180 credits for the BA or BS degrees.

How Does A College Class Schedule Differ From A High School One
In high school, students are typically on a four-year track taking many pre-determined classes with little to no flexibility. Sometimes, its not just credits that qualify you. You can take tests to prove your knowledge of a prerequisite course. There are nationally recognized testing companies, like CLEP and DSST that test you on a number of subjects. The exams cost money but its going to be a lot less than paying for the course itself.
Transfer Grade Point Average
GPA is short for Grade Point Average. Colleges require a minimum GPA for admission and to earn a degree. Colleges take letter grades, such as a C, and assign a numerical value to them on a 4 point scale. They then add up these points and average them to get what is called a GPA.

Someone who has a 2.0 has a C GPA. Most colleges require a 2.0 transfer grade average for regular admission. A few may require a GPA in the range of 2.5 to 2.75 or a C+ to B- average. All accredited colleges require a minimum 2.0 GPA to earn a degree.
You should be able to transfer old courses that carry a grade of C or better. Lower grades may not transfer. Depending on your cumulative transfer GPA, you may be able to transfer all or none of your old courses that carry grades below a C.

How Many College Credit Hours To Take Per Semester
The average number of credit hours taken per semester is typically 15 for a bachelors degree. This is popular among students as this allows for four years of college at 30 hours per year, allowing for each year to coincide with a new academic standing . When determining how many credit hours to take, its also important to consider the amount of studying required outside of class. The old-school rule is that a student should study two hours a week, outside of class, for each credit hour enrolled. For a student taking 15 credit hours, this indicates they should spend 30 hours studying, or a total of 45 hours per week focusing on class and studies. The amount doesnt sound too far fetched considering the average American works close to the same. However, this will differ on a week-by-week basis. You may spend 2 hours on a class one week for a quick homework assignment, and 16 hours on it the next week preparing for an exam.
Universities typically put in a cap on the number of credit hours that you can take per semester. The maximum you can usually take is somewhere between 18-20 per semester. This is to ensure that you have appropriate time to study, prioritize, and still have a life outside of class and studying.
Taking 15 hours per semester is the recommended approach, however sometimes its easier said than done. Here are a couple reasons why people take more or less than 15 hours per semester:
Transferring Credits Between Nationally And Regionally Accredited Schools
While nationally accredited colleges and universities often accept credits from both regionally and nationally accredited schools, regionally accredited schools only accept credits from other regionally accredited institutions.
The reason for this is because regionally accredited schools are reviewed by a specific, regional governing body that evaluates a schools curriculum and makes sure its up to the rigorous academic standards of that governing body. On the flipside, nationally accredited schools are often more vocational or trade-based in nature, as opposed to more strictly academic institutions within the regionally accredited category.
Its much easier to transfer college credits between regionally accredited schools. For instance, National University is a regionally accredited institution. So, if you have credits from another regionally accredited college or university, you may likely be able to transfer those credits to a degree program at National University. However, if youd earned those credits at a nationally accredited university, they may not successfully carry over.
