New College Accreditation Requirements May Affect Concurrent High School Classes

ST. PAUL, Minn. – There are big worries at the Minnesota Capitol about changes that could affect concurrent enrollment classes in high schools, which can save families thousands of dollars in future education expenses. The concern is that a crackdown on teacher qualifications could jeopardize many of those classes.

    What are concurrent enrollment classes?

These are not AP classes, which require a test for potential college credit. Concurrent enrollment classes are actual college courses that students can take while they are in high school. Currently, the Department of Education says 24,000 students are enrolled in one of these classes.

    The concern

At a Capitol hearing Thursday, the Higher Learning Commission president says in 2017 it will start enforcing an existing rule requiring instructors teaching concurrent enrollment classes to have at least 18 masters degree credits in the field that they are teaching.

We dont feel that they should get less of an education than they would in college, said Barbara Gellman-Danley Ph.D. We feel they deserve the same level because its for college credit.

But lawmakers worry such rigorous standards will jeopardize a program thats working.

What Does Certification As A Hypnotherapist Really Mean

    Fox College

One of the first questions we hear from prospective students is âDoes your training make me a Certified Hypnotherapist?â They often seem a little confused about this question because every school theyve found on the web claims to make them a âCertified Hypnotherapistâ in time frames from one week to 60 days.

To add to the confusion, there are at least half a dozen âCertification Agenciesâ out there, all representing themselves as the âOneâ you need to be recognized in the field. On top of that, they all have official sounding names that lead you to believe they are government or international agencies.

In fact, all of those official sounding names are nothing more than fictitious business names for individuals or groups who are in the business of selling âCertifications.â None of them are government agencies required for you to practice hypnotherapy or play any role in your legal right to call yourself a âHypnotherapist.â Some of these organizations are actually owned by the same people that own the school that is recommending them.

    About Hlc And Accreditation

The Higher Learning Commission is a regional accreditation agency that accredits degree-granting colleges and universities that are based in a 19-state region of the United States.

Regional accreditation validates the quality of an institution as a whole and evaluates multiple aspects of an institution, including its academic offerings, governance and administration, mission, finances, and resources. HLCs institutional accreditation includes all degree levels as well as onsite and online offerings. Institutions of higher education in the United States may also seek accreditation through national or specialized accreditation agencies. National accreditation associations, like regional accreditors, accredit the institution as a whole. Specialized accreditation agencies accredit programs, departments or schools within a college or university.

Regional accreditation agencies are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit degree-granting colleges and universities. There are six regions of the United States which regional agencies oversee. The regional accreditation agencies have similar standards for accrediting colleges and universities.

Institutions that HLC accredits are evaluated against its Criteria for Accreditation, a set of standards that institutions must meet to receive and/or maintain accredited status.
