At my high school, each year, several students who had taken AP Calculus as juniors would take Calculus III at the local community college to gain more math skills and be better prepared for college math classes.

I wanted to maximize my chance of getting in, and ideally I wanted to have the ability to choose between a few options, so I decided to apply to a large number of programs .

Using the MSAR, I made a list of schools where my GPA/MCAT were within or very close to the 10th to 90th percentile ranges. I also wanted schools that accepted a high number of out-of-state students, so I removed the majority of the out-of-state public schools from my list. Finally, I sat down with my wife, and we ranked the remaining schools based on location. From there, we chose the top 37 schools, and I had my list.

When you enroll at two different community colleges, youâll want to consider the cost. Be aware that financial aid can be complicated with co-enrollment.

Federal financial aid can only be applied to one school. So if you are receiving assistance for one community college, you will have to pay for the other one out of pocket.

It is worth noting that there is an exception to this. If you want to use financial aid towards both schools, you have the option of establishing what is called a âconsortium agreementâ with the two colleges.

A consortium agreement is an agreement between two educational institutions that allows a student to be enrolled at both schools while receiving financial aid at one of the colleges. The student designates one college as their âhome schoolâ and the other as their âhost school.â

You Need One Main School

Even if you plan to attend two colleges, one of them needs to be your main school otherwise known as the school that will present you with a degree upon completion.

Once you decide on that school, you can work with them to ensure that the credits you take at your secondary school will transfer over and count towards your degree requirements. Making sure your credits transfer is one of the most important steps youll take throughout this process.

You dont want to end up a few weeks from graduation and find out that a course didnt count, so youre no longer eligible.

How Did You Prepare For The Mcat

I prepared for the MCAT for five months. My schedule was to study in the evenings on weekdays for three hours, and then six to eight hours on the weekends.

The biggest gains I saw in my performance happened when I abandoned traditional content review and instead focused on working through practice passages. Each passage was used as a guide for my content review. I would make sure I understood and could concisely explain why each answer choice on each question was right or wrong. This guided practice allowed me to review my weak points, as well as practice working through passages and digesting relevant information.

I took ten full-length practice tests , three from Kaplan, four from Next Step, and three from the AAMC. The AAMC practice tests were the best by far, followed by Next Step. The Kaplan tests were basically written to test discrete knowledge and were not representative of the actual thing.
