Every year the Dell XPS 13 wows us and this year has been no exception, as evidenced in our Dell XPS 13 review. In the review we discovered the XPS 13 to be everything an engineering student could wish for while taking notes in class or completing coursework in-between seminars it’s powerful, portable, compact and has an impressive battery life, too.
It also comes equipped in its latest incarnation with the very latest 11th-gen Intel processors installed and up to 16GB of RAM installed, too, meaning everything from Netflix to intensive AutoCAD work is easily handled. The Intel Iris Xe GPU doesn’t give the same sort of performance as a high-end Nvidia graphics card, but it still punches hard and complements the core specs well.
The XPS 13 doesn’t let the side down in terms of screen, either, with a 13.4-inch FHD display with the super-thin bezels looking absolutely stunning. If you’ve got deep pockets you can spec the system out with a 4K screen, too, however we think that to most engineering students the Full HD screen will be plenty. Colors a deep and vibrant and detailing is pin sharp. The whole screen is also coated with Corning Gorilla Glass so it ain’t going to crack or scratch easy, either.

Battery life numbers have been steadily increasing, and we’ve seen some surprising numbers, even in gaming laptops. The HP Envy 14’s performance isn’t outstanding, but it’s still commendable given its discrete GPU.
It lasted 9 hours and 51 minutes on the Laptop Mag battery test, which is just short of the 10:08 premium laptop average. While the Envy beat the Dell XPS 15 and wasn’t far off the average, it was left behind by the Acer Book RS and Lenovo Yoga 9i .

The latest XPS 13 houses 11th-gen Intel silicon and is a solid step up from its tenth-gen predecessor when it comes to performance and battery life. It remains one of the best looking laptops around, too, with a compact, sleek build characterised by an attractive aluminium chassis and carbon fibre interior.
Its keyboard is one of the best we’ve tested as well, thanks to a smart layout and keystrokes that feel just right when typing. If your studies require a lot of essay writing, you’ll find the XPS 13 a dream to work on.
There are various display options available but we reviewed a unit featuring an FHD non-touchscreen. The 16:10 aspect ratio is more pleasant to work on than a 16:9 display, peak brightness of 566cd/m2 enables you to work comfortably on the laptop while outside and both sRGB colour coverage and accuracy are excellent.
It may not be on quite the same level as Apple’s MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, but if you’re in search of a premium Windows laptop to use while studying, there aren’t many better than the Dell XPS 13 9310.
