If youve been accepted to a college, youll receive a college acceptance letter from that school, most likely at first electronically and then later as a hard copy in the mail.

Most college decisions are released in the spring, typically no later than the first week of April. However, if you applied early action/early decision, you can expect to hear back in either December, January, or February.

If youve received an admittance letter, thats wonderful! Once youve finished celebrating, its time to figure out the next steps to take. What Colleges Can I Get Into With A 20 Gpa

There are a limited number of institutions that may accept students with a 2.0 GPA, and weve provided a list below. This list is only a guideline and features institutions that have historically accepted students with a GPA of 2.0-2.1.

If youre a freshman or sophomore, you have time. Take it one tenth of a GPA at a time. If youve been getting a C average in classes, aim for C+. Study more, go for a B-. Improving your grades will improve your GPA and you have the luxury of time to work your way up to a GPA with more options, even a 3.0 if you work hard.

For seniors, it wont be possible to significantly raise your GPA in time for most college submissions. Some deadlines extend into February and March, so theres a chance to move your GPA up a few tenths in the first semester and add a few more college options, but theres also the option of attending a 2-year college. Often referred to as a community college, opting to go to school locally for the first two years of college can be a great option for any student, since tuition costs are low and many students live at home while attending, saving the cost of room and board. Once youve completed those two years, raised your GPA, and are sufficiently ready, you can apply to transfer to the college of your choice based on your new and improved GPA.

The first week of April is just around the corner. For the past year, you have focused heavily on where to apply to college, and then how to win the hearts of people like me. You’ve been increasingly anxious about the results as the decision dates loom. Oddly, all this effort may have left you surprisingly unprepared for a task that is just as challenging as making your applications.

Here are a few thoughts based on several years of observing what happens after students get their envelopes, whether thick or thin, and they are suddenly faced with a big decision.

* If you receive some rejections, you will tend to dwell on them. It’s only natural — what we can’t have suddenly seems far more valuable or interesting than what we can have. You will tempted to revisit every step of your high school career and your application process, pondering what you might have done differently. But there is one and only one good answer to any rejection letter you receive, dream school or not: “Your loss, baby.” Then move on.

* If you haven’t done it already, you also need to talk with your backers about the money. I am always amazed at how many families have somehow gotten to this point without a serious discussion on who’s paying for what and how much difference a difference in price is going to make to the final decision.

What Is Considered A Low Gpa

To know what a low GPA is, you need to understand what the GPA is. Then put it into context of the colleges you want to apply to. Most colleges use a point scale of 4.0. So, a grade of A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 2 points, D= 1 point and F = zero points. The average of all the points for all the courses you took in high school is your GPA. According to the latest study by the NCES, GPAs have gone up over time. In their last study, they found the national average GPA was 3.0.

If your GPA is less than the national average, you might guess it is a low GPA. And when compared in this way, anything below 3.0 is low. But many colleges do not use the GPA to predict your readiness for college. These schools may not set a GPA you need to get in. Or, they may set their standards at 2.0 or 2.5. In this case, if you have a 2.75 GPA, while lower than others in the US, it may be high for that college.
