Community Dental Health Coordinator
In 2006, the ADA launched the community dental health coordinator program to provide support and services for people who may have difficulty gaining access to quality dental care. Learn more about this emerging role and what it takes to become a CDHC.
CDHCs are trained community health workers with dental skills who work as members of the dental team. As a CDHC, your goal will be to link patients with dental care providers who are ready to serve them. You will be a bridge between underutilized resources and patients who can benefit.
CDHCs focus on case management, navigation and oral health education and promotion. They may conduct motivational interviews to reveal issues or concerns that might keep patients from seeking oral care. Community mapping â which involves helping people identify oral health resources near them â may also be part of the role.

Associate Of Arts Degree
Granted by community colleges after successful completion of major courses and general education courses. Those students who are interested in obtaining an A.A. degree must complete a minimum of 60 units . Students can transfer to a four-year university while simultaneously completing their A.A. degree. Those students who are interested in obtaining an A.A. degree and planning to transfer to a four-year university must consult with a counselor to determine the exact courses needed to be taken at a community college in order to satisfy requirements at the intended transfer institution.
As You Are Planning Your Uc Transfer Keep These Important Facts In Mind:
- Each course must be worth at least 3 semester units and be UC-transferable. Check ASSIST to see what courses from your community college are transferable.
- You need to earn a grade of C or better in each course or a Pass grade if pass is equivalent to a C .
- You need to be in good academic standing at the last college/university you attended prior to enrolling at UC.
- AP exam scores of 3, 4, or 5 may also be used in appropriate subject areas
- All campuses recommend that you complete math and English as early as possible .

What Makes Up A Degree
The distribution of your courses among the following three areas determines whether the program you have selected leads to an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science degree.
- Basic Skills: Effective college learning requires competency in reading, writing, speaking, listening, mathematics, reasoning and study skills. Computer literacy is also recommended, and is required by many programs. Each program at CCAC develops these skills.

The California community college systems dramatic enrollment drop wont have immediate financial consequences for the 116-college system but it could be detrimental for part-time adjunct faculty.
While student enrollment plunged during the pandemic, districts that lost students wont get hurt financially. The states funding formula distributes money based partly on enrollment, but colleges that have lost students in recent years are funded based on higher and older numbers.
Those protections will be in place until at least 2025. For part-time faculty, however, the consequences will be more immediate, as they work semester-by-semester based on the availability of classes.
Were watching to see how it impacts part-time faculty assignments because the districts are going to give full-timers their assignments first, said Stephanie Goldman, acting executive director of the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges. The group advocates for issues of interest to the 42,000 adjunct faculty in the system, but it does not bargain for them. Local unions negotiate with each of the 73 locally elected districts that run the colleges.
Assemblyman Kevin McCarty , chairman of the state Assemblys budget subcommittee on education finance, said that even if lawmakers had exact enrollment numbers, it likely wouldnt affect policy decisions.

Community College of Philadelphia offers academic programs that lead to the following associates degree and certificate programs. These programs all develop the broad competencies associated with 21st century skills.
Each academic program in the Catalog is described briefly and includes a grid of the requirements for graduation. This information will help guide you in selecting the courses you need for graduation in a sequence that will help you move through consecutively more challenging information.
Programs are listed in the recommended sequence for full-time students typically taking at least 15 credits per semester. Many students at the College spread their academic work across several years, attending part time rather than full time.
Some College-wide general education requirements are automatically fulfilled when students complete a required course within a program this is indicated in the far right column on the program page. Other general education requirements are not automatically fulfilled, and students must choose an elective that meets the specified requirement. These requirements are listed beneath the grid under the heading General Education Requirements.
Regular consultation with an academic advisor or counselor is important, whether a student is planning to enter the employment market directly or continue on in higher education.

How To Decide Which Courses To Take In Community College
The best place to start is with a visit to your community college advisor. While these advisors may or may not be well-versed in the ins and outs of applying for Ivy League or international schools, they can almost certainly talk to you in some detail about the requirements for gaining admission to colleges and universities within the state since that is where most students are headed. And if they are unable to provide you with any requested information, they at least have the skills and contacts to find it for you so that you don’t have to go digging on your own.

That being said, it is up to you to ensure that you’re prepared for transfer since you’re the only one who will suffer if you’re not. And while your advisor can definitely provide you with a listing of classes that will meet the requirements for transfer to certain schools you may need to obtain further information in order to select your classes wisely.
For example, certain courses may meet multiple requirements while others that qualify for one area may not count in another. So you obviously want to select the course that gives you the widest range of possibilities down the line.

Types Of Courses In A Program
For every program there are different kinds of courses you need to take in order to earn that degree.
- Required Courses: These courses come from the program core requirements, general education requirements and other disciplines. Generally, they should be completed in sequence so that you will be adequately prepared for more advanced courses. In some cases, courses completed without the necessary prerequisites do not count towards graduation.
- Restricted Electives: These courses may be made up of both program core courses and general education courses. On occasion, a specific program will include courses from other disciplines. These are meant to compliment the program’s core courses. They are classified as electives because you will have a choice of two or more courses or groups of courses from which to select. If you are planning on transferring to a four-year college or university, consult with your academic advisor and the other college’s catalog.
- General Electives: These courses are sometimes called unspecified electives. Your program may require a minimum number of general elective credits.

Typical Curriculum For Online Associate Programs
Most of the online community college courses you’ll take will be general education classes. These typically revolve around core subjects like English, the humanities, mathematics, and the sciences.
For example, your school could require you to complete two science classes, with the options including astronomy, biology, chemistry and physics. Therefore, you’ll have some flexibility as to which classes you take to meet various general education requirements. Some programs may require you to take other types of general education courses, such as those focused on cultural literacy, communication, or foreign languages.
Often, the general education classes you take as part of an associate degree online program are the same as those you’d find in a four-year program. This is why so many students choose to complete this coursework at a less expensive community college before transferring into a bachelor’s-level program at a four-year university.
Most of the online community college courses you’ll take will be general education classes.
You may also be able to complete some major-focused or upper-division classes through an online community college. This is especially true if you pursue an AAS or AAA degree, which both focus on preparing students to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.
