Dental Colleges And Hygiene Schools
More and more people are turning to dental schools to have their dental work done at a reduced costfar less than what is charged in the community. Care may even be offered for free. This is an option that is usually open to everyone, regardless of income.
Dental students are always working in the presence of professors who are scrutinizing and judging their work constantly. The idea is that students get the opportunity to learn a procedure while you get dental work at a fraction of the cost.
You are probably at your safest when getting treated at a dental school where each step is checked and monitored, whereas you have to trust that your private dentist knows what they are doing.
You can search for dental colleges and programs on the American Dental Association site to see if there is one near you.
There are potential downsides to being treated at a dental college. Most dental schools are located in major cities. If you live far from a dental school, the travel time may be prohibitive. Some schools may also have long waiting times to get assigned to a provider team and get care.
In addition, because every step is monitored, a procedure that normally takes two hours when performed by a private dentist can wind up taking five hours. This is because every step is monitored and approved by the professor before moving forward.

Us Merchant Marine Academy
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, gives its graduates a wider range of career choices than the other military academies. All students must perform some sort of service after graduation, but they have a choice about what kind. They can either spend five years on active duty in any branch of the armed forces, or they can spend five years working in the maritime industry and eight years in the reserves.

At the end of their four years, they earn not only a B.S. degree but also a U.S. Coast Guard license and an officers commission in the Armed Forces.
Choose A College With Free Tuition
Land of the free yes, but America is hardly the land of free education. Attending college in the US can be frighteningly expensive. So what if we told you there was a way you could reduce, or even entirely avoid, having to pay tuition?
With tuition-free schools, you can do that. From four-year colleges offering incentives to local residents to tuition-free community college programs, a variety of schools around the country offer free tuition programs.
However, getting into these schools is not always a cakewalk. Every tuition-free school has its own requirements. Sometimes its as simple as where you grew up, while other times youll need to meet strict standards for income and academic merit. William E. Macaulay Honors College in New York, for instance, offers full tuition to students who meet the New York State residency requirements.
Keep in mind though, even if you receive free tuition at one of these schools, that doesnt mean everything is free. Youll be saving the cost of your college classes, but youre still likely to pay for textbooks, meals, and housing. Despite all of that, youll still save way more money in tuition-free colleges than traditional colleges.

Does Free College Work Well In Other Countries
The answer appears to be yes. But that might depend on whom you ask. So where is college free in other parts of the world?
As of the 2017-2018 school year, at least seven countries offer tuition-free public higher education . For example, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Norway, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Sweden have free college education. So free college, in Europe especially, has proven to be a popular idea.
One reason why is that countries with free college education tend to have lower levels of student debt among their graduates. For example, according to the European Expert Network on Economics of Education , in Finland, the average college student loan amounts to $1,200, which is used mostly for living expenses while in school. In Norway, the average student loan is worth $9,381. But that is still less than the U.S. average, which is $15,510.
Plus, another compelling fact about free colleges in Europe is that those nations don’t generally spend that much more on higher education than the U.S. does. For instance, the EENEE reports that as a share of national GDP, the U.S. spends about 1.36 percent on post-secondary education. But Finland and Norway only spend 2.08 percent and 1.96 percent of their nations’ GDP, respectively.

Us Coast Guard Academy
The New London, Connecticut-based CGA trains students for service in the Coast Guard. This branch of the military is the oldest life-saving force in the world, but maritime safety is only part of its job. It also helps manage sea traffic and commerce, protect natural resources, and defend the countrys shores.
The 900 or so cadets at CGA all receive free tuition, room, and board. In exchange, they must serve at least five years after graduation, usually on board a ship. Students prepare for this by spending the summer after their third year working aboard a Coast Guard cutter ship.
Admission is limited, with only 18% of students who apply being accepted. However, unlike the other service academies, CGA does not require a congressional nomination to apply. Roughly 84% of all students will eventually go on to graduate.
U.S. News rates CGA at #2 out of 62 regional colleges in the North. The student-faculty ratio is 8:1, and more than three out of four classes have 20 students or fewer. CGA offers majors in engineering, humanities, management, mathematics and science. It also offers several unique courses through its Strategic Intelligence Studies department, such as Intelligence and National Security Policy.
Work For Your University And Go To College For Free
If you are open to funding your education by working for your university, work colleges could be a great choice.
A work college integrates academic programs with work programs, offering either free or reduced tuition to students who participate in these programs. Currently, there are nine work colleges across the country that are recognized by the Department of Education.
Students in these programs work on-campus jobs in the library, dining hall, or even groundskeeping. That doesnt mean if youre accepted at a work college youll be scraping dishes and mopping floors. Some of these colleges have excellent programs where students gain practical experience that prepares them for the workforce, helps them pay for school, and at the same time, gives back to the community.

Macaulay Honors College At Cuny
Macaulay Honors College in New York City is part of the City University of New York system. However, it has stricter standards than most CUNY schools, taking only the highest-performing students. The average SAT score for Macaulay students is over 1400. Macaulay also looks for students with good grades, extracurricular activities, essays, recommendations, and community service.
Macaulay is not a stand-alone school. Instead, its students enroll as undergraduates in one of the eight other CUNY colleges and take most of their courses on their home campus. However, they also attend some classes and events at the Macaulay building on Manhattans upper west side. When they graduate, they receive a joint degree from Macaulay and their home campus.

Macaulay students can choose from among 475 majors across CUNYs eight campuses. They also take four special seminar courses for Macaulay students only, exploring the arts, science, and the people and social forces of New York City. Could Students Lose The Scholarship
Yes. Students must remain enrolled full time, taking 30 credits a year. Some of those credits could be taken during the summer or winter semesters.
But there will be exceptions. Students with disabilities will not be required to register full time to be eligible for the scholarship, according to SUNY.
Students are also required to maintain the GPA necessary to stay in school and finish on track to graduate on time.

Attend A Work College
A work college is another way to get a free college education or, at the very least, substantially discounted tuition. Just as the name suggests, these colleges, which are generally four-year liberal arts institutions, provide educational opportunities as well as valuable work experience.
But be aware, all students must participate in a comprehensive work-learning service for all four years of enrollment. In other words, all resident students have jobs. Often the jobs are on campus, but sometimes the employment may be off campus. Specific program details vary by college.
All participating work colleges are approved and supervised by the U.S. Department of Education and are required to meet specific federal standards.
