There are various ways to get college credits without actually taking college courses:
- AP courses: These are college-level courses and exams offered in high school. Based on your AP exam score upon completion of the course, you can earn college credit. University Of Chicago Bachelors Credit Requirements
Instead of credits, the University of Chicago uses units to measure course degree requirements. For reference, one unit equals 3 1/3 semester hours . Courses with greater or lesser unit values carry more or fewer quarter or semester credit hours.
The University of Chicago requires a total of 42 100-unit courses for graduation. Fifteen courses are for general education and 27 for your chosen major and electives.
Bachelors degree candidates are required to take a range of courses. First, there is general education , which requires 1,500 units.
Here are the areas of study for general education:
- Humanities: requires 600 units/six quarter courses
- Natural and Mathematical science: requires 600 units/six quarter courses
- Social Sciences: requires 300 units/three quarter courses
- General electives require 8001,700 units
Units for language courses are usually counted toward electives. This is the case whether you earn it by course registration or petition.
Lastly, there is the major that you choose, which calls for 1,0001,900 units. The University of Chicago offers over 50 majors to pursue.
Altogether, you need a minimum of 4,200 units of credit for an undergraduate degree. In addition, you have to earn at least 3,800 of these college credits by course enrollment instead of test-taking.

Graduating from a four-year college in four years may sound like a fairly straightforward venture, but only 41 percent of students manage to do it.
That matters. The longer it takes, the less likely a student is to make it to graduation: A quarter of students drop out after four years, according to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, and most say its because of money. Cost, indeed, is a major issue for many families in-state tuition and fees run $8,940 on average at public institutions, $28,308 at private ones. Many of those who finish in five or six years have either unnecessarily drained their parents bank accounts or end up in a lot more debt.
We asked educators to identify the biggest obstacles to a timely graduation. They talked about students who aim for a four-year finish but fail to take the right courses in the right order. Other students conclude that graduating in four years isnt so important, and cut back on classes to make more time for play.
Here are the six roadblocks most cited, and ways to tackle the problem.

Beware The Grade Of D
When advising students nearing graduation, determine if the student is repeating a course in which a grade of D was previously earned. Be aware that the DARS report will count the D as a completed course, even if the student is repeating the course during the current term. At the end of the term, only the hours earned in one of the attempts will count in the total. During the term, both the completed course and the enrolled course will show up as hours.

College students who perform well in summer internships have long had an advantage with hiring managers once they graduate. Remote work and school during the pandemic made it harder for recruiters to connect with college students over the past year, so companies have become even more inclined to hire their interns for full-time positions, recruiters say, even if the internship was over Zoom.
Employers were much more likely to make offers of full-time employment to Class of 2020 interns than they were to those who interned in previous years, according to data from the National Association of Colleges and Employers. Among eligible interns from the Class of 2020, 79.9% received offers, compared with 68% from the Class of 2019 and 70.4% from the Class of 2018.
Of employers who offered internships in the summer of 2020, about 72% had interns working remotely, according to NACE. Employers offered full-time positions to 80.5% of virtual interns, compared with 73.3% of on-site interns.
Since so much recruiting is virtual right now, it just makes it harder to recruit from the general population at large, said Joshua Kahn, assistant director of research and public policy at NACE. While a variety of factors could be contributing to the trend, he said, it makes sense that employers would rather make more offers to their interns than they normally would.
