What Is The Reserve Officers Training Corps
Though conception of the ROTC program and the Reserve goes as far back as 1819, Congress formally created the ROTC program in the National Defense Act of 1916. The first ROTC class started that year, at Harvard. Students can join junior ROTC in high school and ROTC in college.
ROTC requirements do not include bootcamp, but participants, also called cadets, agree to enroll in the military after graduation if they receive a scholarship. The number of required service years varies depending on the scholarship received and which career and branch of the military you choose. Non-scholarship students can complete the two-year ROTC basic course during college without committing to military service after graduation.
ROTC scholarships cover two, three, or four years of college and may cover full tuition and fees. Students may also receive a book allowance and a monthly stipend up to $5,000 per year. Specific scholarship benefits vary depending on the type of student and branch of the military .
ROTC colleges attract students interested in serving in the military and earning a degree. ROTC cadets gain leadership skills and discipline that can serve them in other careers.

Air Force ROTC Scholarship are available for qualified candidates and there are two ways to receive a scholarship. The first is to apply for a scholarship out of high school. Located in Omaha, Nebraska. Detachment 470, hosted at the University of Nebraska Omaha, is one of the oldest detachments in the country.

In College Scholarship Program
- In-college scholarships are given out to students who have academically excelled in the classroom, in AFROTC LLAB, maintain a passing Physical Fitness Assessment, are medically qualified and meet all other prerequisites according to Headquarters AFROTC. Students do not apply for these scholarships, rather they request their ROTC Professors to consider them for a scholarship. The Detachment 867 commander then determines if the student is qualified and deserving for nomination to the national board. Cadets are then selected for scholarships on the national board.

**Type 1 scholarships cover full tuition and recipients then receive an General I.D. White Scholarship from Norwich University in the value of room and board. Type 1 scholarship recipients are not eligible to receive additional Norwich University grants, Scholarships or awards, but remain eligible for federal and state financial aid.

Students should weigh the pros and cons of applying for ROTC colleges. Participating in ROTC can lead to substantial academic funding, making it possible to earn a degree completely tuition-free and without accumulating a large debt. ROTC scholarships are not retroactive, so the sooner you decide to apply, the better.

The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps provides you the opportunity to become a United States Air Force officer while completing your college degree. Rotc Program Highlights Courses & Requirements
Students enrolled in a Navy ROTC program take a series of required classes and participate in regular physical training sessions. They learn Navy procedures and participate in weekend and summer training programs. Most NROTC members join in their freshman year of college and those who join on a scholarship become Scholarship Midshipmen and are bound to service after graduation. Scholarship programs are highly competitive. Graduates of the Navy ROTC commit to at least five years of active duty in careers within surface warfare, naval aviation, submarines, nursing corps, special warfare and explosive ordnance disposal. Scholarship and non-scholarship participants in NROTC complete the same program. All NROTC students must complete a naval science course each semester. Can You Join Air Force Rotc As A Junior In College
Do I have to join Air Force ROTC as a freshman? No. Any undergraduate student with three or more years remaining should be eligible. So if you are a second-semester freshman, a sophomore or otherwise and have at least three years remaining in your undergraduate studies, you are likely able to join the ROTC program.
Rotc Programs: Preparation For A Service
The Reserve Officer Training Corps are armed services basic training programs at colleges and universities designed to train commissioned officers. While ROTC participants are not required to complete military service upon graduation, those who have received an ROTC scholarship incur a service obligation, with the amount of time required dependent on which type of commission they accept.
The Army, Navy and Air Force all have ROTC programs. Students interested in the Marines participate in the Navy program and the U.S. Coast Guard has its own Split Training programs similar to ROTC. Even if you dont intend to pursue the military, the discipline ROTC can develop is an advantage in everyday life and it looks great on a resume.
Navy And Marine Corps Rotc
The Navy ROTC program, offered at 77 colleges in the U.S., is the largest source of Navy officers. Future Marine Corps officers can also join the Navy ROTC. Students complete a combination of academic courses and military training and enlist in the Navy or Marine Corps after graduation.
Application
To qualify for the Navy ROTC scholarship program, applicants must graduate from high school before August 1 of the year they plan to attend college. High school students can start the Navy ROTC application in the second semester of their junior year. They can apply for the Navy, Marine Corps, or Nurse scholarship program.
Students with 30 or more college semester credits cannot apply for a four-year scholarship, but may qualify for the two- or three-year option. Scholarship applicants must major in a Navy ROTC-approved subject such as mechanical engineering, systems engineering, astrophysics, or oceanography.

ROTC cadets join the Armed forces left and right after graduating Texas A& M. Students can prepare for the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. And if the Navy and Air Force pique your interest, Texas A& Ms focus on STEM will definitely help. Past that, students here train with Special Operations units and get put to the test with intensive and demanding training. Texas A& M also offers a Texas Armed Services Scholarship. As long as a Texas student commits to any branch within the Armed Forces, they qualify for financial aid. Texas students also qualify for the Hazelwood Exemption as long their parent served in the Armed Forces.
