Travelers coming in and out of Easterwood Airport wont be flying United in the coming weeks, making travel less convenient.

Baltimore, Maryland resident Mary Beth Livesey hopes options will stay. She is coming to A& M to see her grandson. Her flights on American got canceled this week so she switched to United.

United Airlines To Suspend Service At Killeen College Station Airports
– United Airlines announced the suspension of service to the Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport , along with seven other regional airports in the United States, effective January 4, 2022.
The airline is also pulling out of Easterwood Airport in College Station, according to a news release from the Texas A& M University System, which owns the airport.
United Airlines blamed pandemic-related shortages, including limited regional aircraft availability, as well as limited pilots and crews nationwide, as the reasons for the suspension.
The airline had been offering service at the The Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport for 20 years. Suspension of service at GRK will result in the loss of approximately 100 seats per day, said a City of Killeen spokesperson.
GRK will continue its partnership with American Airlines, which offers in between six to eight flights per day to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport .
The City of Killeen said GRK will also aggressively pursue opportunities with other carriers. It also plans to continue to work with United Airlines to find a path forward by mid-2022, with the potential return of the carrier when market conditions improve.
Texas A& M Chancellor John Sharp said Uniteds decision to suspend service at Easterwood would be devastating to the university system. Were doing everything we can to get them to change their mind, Sharp said.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -Staffing shortages, COVID-19, and the omicron variant are blamed for hundreds of delayed and canceled flights across the country Friday. Delays and cancellations are expected to impact millions of travelers over the Christmas holiday.
While no flights into Easterwood Airport in College Station are directly impacted by delays, some passengers in the Brazos Valley are experiencing issues.

Our flight got delayed by five hours yesterday in Reno due to staffing shortages, said Whitney. So we missed our connecting flight to Dallas last night. We spent the night in Dallas last night, got a couple hours of sleep, and now were finally back in College Station this morning.
The family of four says theyre used to normal flight delays but none due to staffing shortages.
The delays we experience are usually due to weather, not ever due to a staffing shortage before so that was interesting, said Whitney.

United Airlines will drop its service at Easterwood Airport in College Station in 2022, Texas A& M University System officials announced Wednesday.
The move, with United flights to end after Jan. 3, would be devastating, to the A& M University System, Chancellor John Sharp said in a statement.
Were doing everything we can to get them to change their mind, he said.
The Texas A& M University System owns Easterwood Airport, but officials didnt elaborate on how Uniteds departure from College Station could affect its operations and declined requests for comments beyond the emailed statement.
With Uniteds hub being in Houston, it connects us to basically all over the world, said Glen Brewer, president and CEO of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce. Youre going to lose half of your flights out to a connecting hub. We have people flying in here from all over the world for A& M and for business purposes. For a growing city of our stature, I think it would definitely be a setback.
John W. Clanton, the president of Easterwood Airport Management, learned of Uniteds decision during a Wednesday afternoon call, the statement said.
United operates two daily flights from Easterwood Airport to Houston. Uniteds departure from the airport would leave three American Airlines flights each day to Dallas-Fort Worth.
