How To Start Over When It Feels Too Late

The good news is that as our society continues to develop at such a rapid pace, it also means we have more opportunities to do things that were previously thought impossible. These days, more individuals are pushing the boundaries and breaking stereotypes.

Its not just about age or education. Its about you, and your ability to accept challenges and having the determination to break free from your existing situation.

1. Gain a Fresh Perspective

To break free from our limitations, weve got to take a step back and gain a fresh perspective on just what limitations really are. On the surface, limitations are things that prevent you from doing something, but if you dig deeper, youll find that limitations are the things that keep you constrained inside a loop.

They keep you stuck facing the same problems, having the same choices, and taking the same actions over and over again. Limitations define the quality of your life. If you want to improve your life, then you must break free from the limitations that keep you in the same loop every day, month, and year.

It may seem that the limitations that youre facing are out of your control or something that just happens to you. However, your reality is derived from your perception.

2. Identify the Challenges

If you have just ended a long-term relationship, what difficulties to you foresee in the near future? You may need to find a new living situation, reconnect with old friends, or get used to being alone again.

Youll Get A Taste Of The College

Obviously, college is different from high school, and even taking an AP class is different from being in an actual college classroom. Whether your course is an intimate seminar or a large lecture with smaller discussion sections, it will introduce you to the types of classes youre likely to encounter in college. You may even find that these new environments suit you better and bring out a different intellectual side of you.

New Study Reveals Highest Paid Jobs That Require No University Degree

When you take a trip, its important to follow the GPS or road map carefully to avoid getting lost and losing time retracing your steps. The same principle applies when it comes to maximizing transfer credits between community college and bachelors degree programs.

At the same time, students should also focus on the academic merit of each community college they consider. Some community colleges offer two-year degrees that can result in employment opportunities for savvy students. This can give students time to work and save money for a four-year degree.

Will Online Community College Courses Transfer To A University

Do community college online courses transfer? Taking online classes can help students who have children and jobs juggle school and their other responsibilities. Some students worry that credits from online community colleges wont count towards their bachelors degree. It all depends on the individual agreement between the school where you got your associates degree and the four-year school.

Do community college online courses transfer to a university? Whether you take in-person or online classes, make sure that you choose accredited programs recognized by the public and private four-year institutions.

Students fresh out of high school, adults looking for a career change, and adults going to college for the first time take advantage of the flexibility and affordability of local and online two-year colleges.

Some states have better plans in place when it comes to partnerships between two-year schools and four-year colleges and universities. For example, North Carolina has 16 public universities that all participate in the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. That means that students in community colleges in North Carolina can transfer credits for a four-year program, automatically becoming a junior.

Who Should Apply Through Open Enrollment

Students without strong academic backgrounds or those who otherwise lack access to higher education benefit the most from open enrollment. Like schools with more strict admission criteria, open enrollment colleges and universities provide a pathway for students to advance their careers and go on to pursue further study.

What Are The Benefits Of Multiple Start Dates

There are several benefits of multiple start dates beyond just allowing you to get started quickly. Essentially, schools that offer multiple start dates usually have courses that run between six and eight weeks. In most cases you can take two of these courses at a time, and each period has about a week or two between the end of one session of classes and the beginning of the next. This significantly increases your flexibility. You might have eight weeks where you can easily complete two courses, followed by eight weeks where you will be more busy and have only time for one course. You may even have periods of time where you cant fit even one course into your life.

Multiple start dates throughout the year insures that you arent locking yourself into a specific schedule for four months at a time. This flexibility is so beneficial when you are trying to plan out your life. Its not always easy to see four months into the future. So multiple start times per year will allow you to decide on your own pace. Its also pretty common for online classes to be offered throughout the summer, so you can either take the summer off, or you can step down to one class, or you can take multiple courses per summer session and make up for lighter sessions during the school year. As you can see, the additional flexibility of multiple start-dates is beneficial not just initially, but throughout your academic career.

Do You Have A Good Reason For Starting A Business Without A Degree

This is perhaps the most important question: Is there a good enough reason for you to stay in college, or for you to drop out?

Matt Brown, co-founder and CEO of freelance management platform Bonsai, is also a volunteer advisor with the Thiel Fellowship mentor network. Thiel selects and grants funding to high-achieving students who could do more good in the world by not attending college, focusing on research and innovation instead.

“Everyone should think critically about the value of investing four years and an incredible amount of money into a university education,” Brown said. “Is there somewhere else where you can be learning faster, meeting more interesting people and working on projects you care about? Do you want to drop out because you have a burning need to create something and being in school blocks that, or are you dropping out because it seems cool and the Facebook guys did it?”

Dropping out of college without a good reason is just as silly as staying in school without one, Brown added. “Just think for yourself.”

Should I Drop Out Of College

So the first question here is if you should be a college dropout in the first place.

Many successful college grads will tell you:

    • That their experience was either very important for their personal and professional development, OR
    • That the four years in college felt like a total waste.

This means that you wont find mediocre answers here.

There are many things you should consider before taking your decision.

Many young people find themselves in a very difficult position after dropping out of college and you dont want to be one of them.

College Dropout RateAs per College Atlas, about 70% of Americans enroll in a four-year college.

In addition, about 30% of first-year students drop out of college for various reasons.

So, almost one out of three students dropout of college in their freshman year.

    Astonishing, right?

Moreover, as I just mentioned, the graduation rate is not as high as youd expect since less than two thirds stay on college

This really makes me wonder if there is something wrong with higher education in this country.

Because it seems that most people are in a hurry to get out of college in order to do something else.

The question is: What are the reasons that make people want to leave college in the first place?

If you have the same question, read on.

Do You Have The Entrepreneurial Spirit And Skills Needed To Succeed

Before you dive into your startup, you must be certain that it is what you want to do. Starting a company is very different from working as an employee at someone else’s business, and many responsibilities and stressors come with the territory. If you are motivated and inspired to start, don’t doubt yourself. However, if you are not positive about how you feel, don’t jump in too quickly.

“True entrepreneurship is a full-time, 24/7 job,” said Tom Portesy, president of MFV Expositions, producers of Franchise Expo West, Franchise Expo South and the International Franchise Expo. “Are you ready for time away from friends family? Are you ready for rejection, disappointment and failure? Are you prepared for countless sleepless nights risking everything you’ve got? It can be immensely rewarding, but do you have the spirit to excel?”

Grech added that entrepreneurs must have patience and perseverance, even in the face of failure.

“If you’re someone who needs reliability and consistency, do not open a business,” said Grech. “There are no guarantees when starting your own company. The highs are high, and the lows are low, and it’s important to maintain your patience when the business is not going in the direction you’re steering.”

    What Does Start Over Mean

If you think of starting over as like pressing a restart button and erasing your past experience, think again. Whatever community college you go to will require information about your past education. And they expect you to be honest with them.

If you hide or lie about your past education, it will put you at risk of being rejected. I dont know how they can find out but college administrators have their ways. So in short, just be honest with yourself and the college during the application process.

The start over that is possible is starting on a new educational route while owing up to your past. Look, your past mistakes will affect you but they wont determine your future. Starting over will probably require taking lots of the general classes you took once.

The material being taught never changes. What will change is how much effort youre going to put in the second time around.
