Received an accounting certificate in 2001. Was able to obtain a position in an accounting department as the accounts payable associate I. The material I received from Penn Foster helped me understand the accounting process and I was able to use the basic knowledge gained with the on the job training to complete my job. I am still in the accounting field doing payroll now for a government contractor in the DC area. Looking into getting in the Medical Coding & Billing field. Also, my best friend received her high school diploma from Penn Foster and graduated from University of Maryland. She is a RN for a large hospital in northern VA. She met this guy in hospital billing department at her job and asked him about how to get into Medical Billing because I was interested. It was interesting because he told her he took the online program at Penn Foster. Got his certificate and applied for several jobs less than 2 months he was hired for his current position. trained him on their system. He already had computer skills but the computer portion of the PF program was generic compared to what he use but was told by others he work with companies systems are different even though they maybe the same programs.

First very few of the books are hard copy. My student has problems looking at a computer screen so I had to print all the study guides, which is what they call the books. You are only graded on a poorly written test. Example:How many calories does a 150lb person burn? My daughter just spent an entire chapter studying how men bun more calories and how calories vary depending on activity level, etc. This question is missing the details. It is almost like they pick one sentence from somewhere inside the entire lesson and make it a question, without any supporting details. They are constantly changing policies. Some of the new policy changes, I never would have signed up if they were in place when I enrolled my student. It seems like bait and switch. Just please save you money. The payment plans are nice, but they will only send you so many books if you go that route. I finally paid for the entire course and signed the waiver to receive the books and still havent received. That was 6 months ago.Not sure what we will use this diploma for, but will be enrolling in classes elsewhere in the Fall of 2017. Please be wary!! If you just want a diploma and not concerned about the quality of education, this is what you will get.
