As the worlds human population grows currently at 7.6 billion people, and expected to reach more than 9 billion in the next two decades global public health has become one of the most critical issues of our time. Public health may mean disease prevention, treating epidemics and pandemics, responding to natural and manmade disasters, or promoting healthy practices and development, but few people outside of the field realize how crucial public health is. Along with resource scarcity and political oppression, health crises are one of the main factors in destabilizing governments, spreading unrest, and forcing refugees to migrate. Experts in global public health are responsible for much more than just health they help keep civilization intact.

Finding An Mph In Global Health

Global health works at so many levels that it may well be one of the most complex fields in modern society. Public health works at the local level, within cities and communities and neighborhoods, but also on national and international scales. With larger stakes, global public health requires collaboration and cooperation between government agencies, NGOs, religious groups, private healthcare systems, universities, research centers, and a host of volunteers, professionals, and advocates. Understanding the full implications of public health initiatives at any level is difficult, but understanding how to craft, implement, and spread public health projects on a global scale needs a special sort of training.

Global public health professionals may work at any level, from direct practice in foreign countries, to administrative positions in government, nonprofit, and private-sector organizations. A strong MPH in Global Health must take into account all of the cultural, ethical, legal, and economic factors involved in public health, and teach students to translate programs to a variety of cultural and political settings.
