Are you a college student that is looking for an interesting job? Working at the Disney Parks in what Disney calls their College Program may be for you. It might not be for the faint of heart, but it does take some guts and knowledge to know the application process. If you think you got what it takes, then this article is for you.

Are Disney College Programs Accredited

Disney College Programs are not technically accredited. Likewise, Disney University is not, itself, an accredited university. While the majority of Disneys courses are developed and instructed by experienced learning professionals, Disney is neither regionally nor nationally accredited by a Department of Education-recognized institution.

However, in order to enroll at Disney University, you must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, or have graduated from an accredited institution in the last 12 months. Your Disney University education will usually occur either in tandem with your traditional college education or as a segment of your actual degree program. In fact, your college or university may have a partnership program with Disney College Programs or with Disney University allowing you to participate in a paid internship, or take Disney University training courses for college credits through your accredited college. You are strongly advised to consult an academic advisor before pursuing the Disney College Program to find out if your school has a partnership program with Disney, or if your degree program awards credits for your participation in a Disney internship.

What Expenses Will I Incur While At Disney

7 Tips for applying for the Disney College Program

Starting from the time you leave home, you will be responsible for all expenses that you incur . You will be paid at least minimum wage at your work site. While the pay is modest, you will be given “perks” such as free admission into the parks, discounts on food and merchandise you buy while in the parks. Because of your Disney status, some Orlando merchants will offer discounts to you as well. In addition, your family is entitled to a discount on their hotel room when visiting you.

How Can I Apply To The Disney College Program And What Is The Acceptance Rate

The Disney College Program is highly competitive. In order to be eligible, you must be over the age of 18, you must be currently enrolled in an accredited college program, and you must have completed at least one semester at an accredited college or university or have graduated from said institution within the last 12 months.

To be eligible for participation in the international program, you must be currently enrolled in a college/university in the United States and possess unrestricted US work authorization. Typically, this means international students must be studying on an F-1 or J-1 visa.

Disney advises that international students contact international student advisors for answers to eligibility questions.

If you meet the terms of eligibility, youll undergo a three-step application sequence that is more akin to a job interview than the typical college admissions process. This process includes:

  • An Online Application
  • A Telephone Interview

Jennifer offers fair warning about this experience:

I didnt have to pass any interviews to get into a university. But the interview process for the Disney College program was extensive and nerve-wracking. It was much more intensive and surprising than any college application process Id ever experienced.

To get started, apply online.

Tip : Think About Your Future

One of the major draws of the Disney College Program is the fact that it offers special courses that participants can take to help them learn how to pursue their dream career. But its important to recognize that almost half of DCP course offerings are Disney-specific: theyre all about the history of the Walt Disney Company and how the business is run.

Many applicants may be excited by the idea of getting an inside look at one of the most successful businesses in the world, but others might want to pursue an internship that focuses more specifically on their future career field. Whatever you decide, knowing that this internship is very much focused on Disney itself is crucial from the get-go.

The Disney College Program is really competitive, so be sure you start the application process as soon as possible.

Why You Should Apply

Taking part in the Disney College Program has many advantages. Participants can network with industry experts, take career and personal development seminars, and improve problem-solving, teamwork, customer service, and communication skills.

What makes the DCP unique is that participants can complete an internship requirement while also enrolling in and paying for a full semester of online college courses. Paid internships that allow you to continue your education are scarce!

That the Disney College Program offers particular classes to help participants learn how to pursue their desired career is one of the programs biggest advantages. However, its vital to note that over half of the DCPcourses are Disney-specific: theyre all about the Walt Disney Companys history and operations.

The prospect of receiving a behind-the-scenes peek at one of the worlds most successful companies may enthrall many applicants, but others may want to seek an internship that is more focused on their potential professional field. Disney College Program: The Web

Speaking of being honest, the Web Based Interview is next. Some, like me, are lucky, and hear back on their application within the same day, giving them access to stage 2. The web-based interview is a series of questions about what you would do in certain situations, your work ethic, how you work with other people, etc, and takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Its incredibly important to read carefully during this stage because many questions are essentially the same question phrased differently, such as Are you ever late to work? and Are you always on time? If you show inconsistencies between these questions, you will likely fail.

Honesty is also key, because while yes, they are expecting certain answers to certain questions, in the obvious sense such as you love interacting with guests and have a great attitude, but dont answer dishonestly, because it will likely backfire in the long run.

    Disneys Summer Cultural Exchange Program

The Cultural Exchange Program or International College Program, is how both Kenzie and I have been fortunate to work at Disney World as Canadians. This program is a 3 month long work/internship program that falls under Disneys international programs. You go to Florida on a J1 visa, this entitles you to work and live in the United States during a work experience/internship. It is basically Canadas version of the Disney College Program .

During this program you will work in one of the many roles available to cast members such as Merchandise, Food and Beverage, Lifeguarding, Recreation or Attractions. You get to live in College Program Housing and go to the events. You also get to be in Florida during the best part of the year, the summer!

What do you need to do this program? To work at Disney World under the Cultural Exchange Program you need to be enrolled in a recognized postsecondary institution such as a college or university. You can be in your final year, but have to have finished at most 6 months before.

What Are The Benefits Of Participating In This Internship

Disney College Program students develop transferable skills that are essential for success in any career. Among them are responsibility, problem solving, effective communication, teamwork, customer service and cultural sensitivity. Having Disney on one’s resume can be a real competitive edge. How many people can boast of working for a Fortune 100 company while still in college? Additional benefits include the opportunity to return to Disney World to work during school breaks or for professional internships, as well as the possibility of full-time employment with Disney or its sister companies after completing college. Many Tompkins Cortland alumni have made careers with Disney World after participating in the College Program. And of course, there is the benefit of making lifelong friends from all over the world.

Disney College Program Application TIPS | How to get into the DCP

The Disney College Program is a national internship program for college U.S citizens. The Disney Internships & Programs a subsidiary of Walt Disney Company are the administrators of this internship program.

Started in 1981, this program started with only 200 students from 20 different schools. As they grew, they continued to expand and grow and increase their employment base. It increased to 500 students each spring, summer and fall session.

Usually, all students of the internship program got to stay at an off-property location and some Lake Vista Village apartments. Some years later, they evacuated all their students from their Vista Way apartments.

Currently, there are over four housing properties where interns can reside. Additionally, they can choose to stay outside the housing facilities.

Today, the programs opportunities are available at all theme parks, resorts and shopping districts of the Walt Disney World Resort and the Disneyland, changing its name to the Disney College Program.

How To Work For Disney As A Canadian

    May 2, 2017

Working for the mouse is honestly a dream come true. Everything about it is magical, but as a Canadian, or honestly just someone not American it is a nightmare to get a job. But there are definitely a few ways to do it! Here are our top picks, though we havent explored them all, we plan to!

How Will It Affect My Education

I get this question a LOT on my YouTube videos. I didnt have to worry about this since I did the program after I graduated. But most of the students in the Disney College Program return to their college after their program ends. There are a few different options when it comes to classes:

  • Most colleges offer online courses. You could try to take classes online through your school while youre participating in the program. That way you wont have to catch up on credits when you get back.
  • The program offers collegiate classes that you can take while you are there. But you will need to check with your school to ensure theyll accept credit for these classes.
  • The program also offers non-credited classes as well! I took the Disney Traditions class and a marketing class as well! It was a unique opportunity to learn from professionals working at one of the top businesses in the world!
  • You will also have opportunities to attend workshops on topics such as interviewing, networking and resume-building. I attended the resume class and I am so thankful I did! If you can I would highly recommend taking advantage of the courses they offer!

Since then it has grown and you can now participate in the program at either Walt Disney World or Disneyland. The program is a chance for students in college to live, learn and earn with Disney. Can International Students Apply To The Disney College Program

    Hannah

Are you an international student under a F-1 or J-1 Visa and want to apply to the Disney College Program but are unsure if you can? If you answered yes then my friend you came to the right place!!!

International Students often are not eligible to participate in a lot of things because we dont posses a citizenship or the proper work authorization, but luckily for us the Disney College Program does accept international students!! During this blog post I will be talking about how the process is different for international students and give you a better perspective of what to expect when you apply.

First things first, Disney WONT give you an H-1 visa. I know, this is weird and all of us kind of expect a visa because otherwise we cant work, right?! Well dont worry because there are actually two other ways for F-1 visa holders that you can obtain permission to work in Disney with out a work visa! These two options are the OPT and the CPT .

    OPT Option

For this process you are going to need several documents such as an application form, copy of passport, I-20, passport pictures and a $410 money order, lol. I know how expensive that is, but thats not even the wort part, it needs to be cash!! Like who has $410 in cash just laying around, not me for sure!! If you know you are going to get an OPT start saving up for that OPT yall.

    CPT Option
