With vaccine eligibility in Ontario now extended to people over 12 years of age, and with expanded supply, students are strongly encouraged to have both doses by August 21 – two weeks prior to moving into residence.
At minimum, students must have at least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine before moving into an on-campus residence.
They must further provide documentation that their second dose is scheduled. Students who receive their second COVID-19 vaccine after the start of the school year will be required to submit proof of receipt of the second dose.

When it comes to enforcement, colleges will most often use a registration hold, barring students from signing up for classes until they have met the requirement. But at some schools, not having proof of vaccination can prevent you from living in campus housing. In some rare cases, students could face expulsion.
Colleges are not new to disease outbreaks either, and in many cases those outbreaks led to vaccination campaigns on campus. In 2015, after an outbreak of meningitis on the campus of the University of Oregon in which a freshman student died, the university set up mass vaccination sites. For that campaign, the school used adhesive bandages with the school’s “O” logo to advertise the vaccine to students.
Is it legal?
“Most universities have the power to require vaccines,” explains Dorit Reiss, a law professor at the UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. “But it does depend on what the college can do generally on vaccines and what they’ve done in the past.”
That’s because it’s not just federal law that colleges need to navigate there are also state laws and the regulatory power that certain colleges possess to make requirements more generally. This can be easier for private colleges than for public ones, though some university systems, including the University of California, have power dictated by the state constitution.

Some vaccine preventable disease are more common with age, as our immune system may not respond as well as we get older. This puts us at a greater risk for certain diseases, including:

The flu is more likely to cause severe illness and even death in older adults.

Alberta Restriction Exemption Program: List Of Places Where Vaccine Proof Required Starting Sept 20th
Alberta on September 15th announced that the province will be introducing a Restriction Exemption Programto combat the rapidly rising COVID-19 cases.
Starting Sept. 20, businesses or event organizers who choose to implement a program checking patrons for government-issued proof of vaccination or a recent negative privately purchased COVID-19 test can continue to operate without restrictions.
All 12+ Albertans and visitors will need to show at least proof of partial vaccination from September 20 to October 25 and proof of full vaccination starting October 25th. For all 18+, a valid photo identification that matches the vaccine record is required to access places participating in the Restriction Exemption Program.
Those who are not vaccinated must show negative Health Canada approved rapid antigen, rapid PCR or lab-based PCR test completed within the previous 72 hours.
Tests must be privately-paid and should not be from Alberta Health Services or Alberta Precision Laboratories. The valid test results should be a written or printed copy that clearly outlines the type of test, time of sample collection, clear indication of a negative result, and laboratory that completed the test, if applicable. Photos of a rapid test result taken offsite are not allowed.

The question is, if you keep priming and boosting with a strain, which is basically to make an immune response against the ancestral strain, will that limit your ability then to make an immune response to a virus, which is very much different than the ancestral? said Dr. Paul Offit, a vaccine expert at Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia.
Offit is describing a phenomenon immunologists call original antigenic sin in which the bodys immune system relies on the memory of its first encounter with a virus, sometimes leading to a weaker immune response when it later encounters another version of the virus.
Vaccines can activate this phenomenon, too, said Offit, also a member of the Food and Drug Administrations vaccine advisory committee. An example is with the human papillomavirus, or HPV, following the release of an updated vaccine that targeted nine strains of the virus instead of just four in the initial shot, he said.
If you got HPV4 and then got HPV9, knowing that the four strains in 4 were also in 9, you had a very good immune response to the four strains, but you didnt have as good as an immune response to the other five strains, he said.
Theoretically, it could apply to Covid, too, Offit said.
He said that some experts have argued it may be better for those not at high risk of severe disease to wait to get a booster until a variant-specific option is available.

According to Temples website, officials reported that there were 15 confirmed cases and 59 suspected cases bringing the total of infected individuals to 74, which constituted an outbreak by public health standards. Naturally, concerned parents flooded Temples Facebook page with questions regarding the health of their teens.
Outbreaks of preventable diseases are on the rise and, as our teens head to college, concerns about their health while living in dorms are at the forefront of our minds. Immunization Requirements For Students
Note: The UO requires students who learn, work, or live on any UO campus location to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to the start of their fall 2021 academic term. Students will be able to record their vacination records and/or request an exemption in myUOHealth.
In an effort to maintain a healthy campus, the University of Oregon has required vaccines and highly recommended vaccines. These vaccines address vaccine-preventable diseases that are often seen on college campuses including COVID-19* measles, mumps, rubella chickenpox tuberculosis whooping cough meningitis and influenza. Students are encouraged to satisfy UO immunization requirements before arriving on campus. University Health Services can also administer most of the required and highly recommended vaccines to students once students are enrolled and attending classes. North Carolina Required Immunizations For Entering Students
The general deadline for submission of the Immunization Form is June 15th for Fall admissions and December 15th for Spring admissions. A $25 non-compliance charge will be placed on your student account if you do not submit records via your ConnectCarolina To-Do List item by the 1st day of classes.
All new and transfer students are required to submit documentation of state-required immunizations. Students who were previously enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hill are not required to resubmit immunization documentation.
Per North Carolina state law, students will be WITHDRAWN FROM THE UNIVERSITY 30 days after classes begin if immunization requirements have not been met.

If I Choose Not To Be Vaccinated Against Covid
Yes. Domestic students who withdraw from their studies prior to the 10th day of classes will receive a full refund of any fees paid toward the Fall and future terms. Any potential refunds will be processed after the 10th day of classes.
International students who withdraw prior to the 10th day or classes may complete the international withdrawal form. All withdrawals require a meeting with an international advisor to review impacts to your immigration status.

Tetanus Diphtheria With Pertussis Or Without Pertussis
Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis immunity is recommended for all students 7 years of age and older. Students through the age of 18 are at higher risk for pertussis disease and should consider receiving a Tdap when their next tetanus booster is needed. Students who have close contact with children less than 12 months of age are recommended to receive Tdap.

Are Vaccinations Required For On
On August 16, Niagara College announced that it will require students, employees and contractors who are learning or working on campus in September to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Students, employees, contractors and those visiting a Niagara College campus for college business will be required to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated or have received a first dose of a Health Canada or World Health Organization approved vaccine by September 7, and a second dose/full vaccination by October 18.
Niagara College had previously announced a mandatory vaccination requirement for students in on-campus residences and is also implementing a mandatory vaccine requirement for all student athletes.
A full policy and process will be released by Monday, August 23 and will include an accommodation process for those who are not vaccinated due to medical or other grounds recognized by the Ontario Human Rights Code. Niagara Colleges on-campus businesses, including the Wine Visitor + Education Centre and Greenhouse will continue to operate within existing provincial COVID measures and requirements for businesses.
Mandatory Vaccines Required At Georgian College
Georgian College is the latest post-secondary institution requiring COVID-19 vaccines.
The college announced Friday that all Georgian students and employees who access any college campus or location need to be vaccinated.
The first dose of a Health Canada or World Health Organization approved vaccine will be required by Sept. 7, and a second dose to ensure complete vaccination will be required by Oct. 18.
The college will be releasing the vaccination policy shortly. It will also address the issue of visitors attending any of their campuses or locations.
