How Can I Know If A Class Will Work For Me
There are many websites you can find that rate your professor, the course, and the course load. Do your research before committing to a class to make sure that you will be able to complete your generals, work well with your professor, and handle the course load.
Also, most schools make professor and course evaluation results available for you to see if the class would work well with you.
The University Of Iowa Residence Requirement
Credit hours earned in all courses offered by The University of Iowa are considered UI residence hours, regardless of whether the courses are offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, by another college within the University of Iowa, or through Distance and Online Education.
Credit hours earned from colleges and universities outside of the University of Iowa are considered non-residence credit.
To earn a bachelors degree from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, you must complete one of the following UI residence options:
- Earn your final 30 s.h. in residence credit, or
- Earn 45 of your final 60 s.h. in residence credit, or
- Earn an overall total of 90 s.h. in residence credit

That said, the many general education courses to choose from can hinder students’ progress through college. Taking advanced gen ed classes that negatively impact a student’s grades is undesirable, but so is chasing easy A’s.
To offset the time burden of gen ed requirements, many students sometimes on the advice of their academic advisors opt for the easiest gen ed options. A better tactic, though, would be to treat general education requirements the same way students treat minors: as opportunities to explore other interests, whether they counterbalance or complement a student’s main course of study.
For example, a computer science student might supplement their understanding of human-computer interaction by taking psychology and sociology gen ed classes. Or, they might prefer to take a break from screen time with a more hands-on course like forestry.
How Much Of My Degree Will Be General Education
Colleges have a lot of leeway in determining how many General Education credits go into their offered degrees. However, most general education requirements cover to ½ of a degree, between 42-60 semester-based college credits. Highly-focused or technical degrees may have fewer Gen Ed requirements to allow for more time on core subjects.

Are Math Classes Required In College
Are math classes required in college? When you go to college, youll more than likely have to take at least one mathematics course as part of your general education requirements. Whether its algebra, geometry, calculus, or statistics, the first math classes that you take in college will present new challenges that you may not have faced in high school.
Can you skip math in college? Only the math credits are excused. Nearly all community colleges have math waivers or math substitution procedures and policies, but only 2 or 3 students per year graduate with a math waiver, according to Tomes. Most students who do all the good faith efforts to pass the courses they need to graduate, Tomes said.
What math classes are mandatory in college? The specific classes required vary by university, but they usually include two semesters of core math classes typically college algebra and calculus two semesters of economics classes and two semesters of accounting classes.

Ncaa Eligibility Requirements For Student
While eligibility requirements have been loosened for the class of 2021 and 2022, it is unknown what the requirements will be for the class of 2023 and beyond. Read on to see an example of typical requirements from previous years to better understand what we may expect again after the impact of the coronavirus pandemic subsides.
The NCAA determines a student-athletes eligibility based on their academic preparedness and amateurism status. Academic eligibility is typically determined using a combination of their SAT/ACT test scores, high school coursework and their GPA as calculated using what are called the NCAA Core Courses.
Keep in mind that the NCAA loosened initial eligibility restrictions for student-athletes who intend to play D1 or D2 sports for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years. Student-athletes graduating high school in 2021 or 2022 who intend to compete at a D1 or D2 college are no longer required to take the ACT or SAT. They are also allowed to use pass/fail grades for core courses. Your amateurism status is determined based on the answers to your amateurism certificate. In extreme cases, the NCAA will investigate your amateurism status.

If youre going to an expensive university, you might just want to hold off attending until youve completed your generals at an in-state community college. Just make sure all of your classes transfer before you take them and pay for them.

E Language Other Than English
UC-approved high school courses
Two years, or equivalent to the 2nd level of high school instruction, of the same language other than English are required. . Courses should emphasize speaking and understanding, and include instruction in grammar, vocabulary, reading, composition and culture. American Sign Language and classical languages, such as Latin and Greek, are acceptable, as are Native American languages. Courses taken in the seventh and eighth grades may be used to fulfill part or all of this requirement if the high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses.

- Spanish/Spanish With Listening: 520
AP or IB examination
Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP Exam in Chinese Language and Culture, French Language and Culture, German Language and Culture, Italian Language and Culture, Japanese Language and Culture, Spanish Language, Spanish Language and Culture, Spanish Literature and Culture or Latin score of 5, 6 or 7 on an IB Language A2 HL exam.
College courses
Grade of C or better in any transferable course held by the college to be equivalent to two years of high school language. Many colleges list the prerequisites for their second course in language as “Language 1 at this college or two years of high school language.” In this case, Language 1 clears both years of the requirement.
