Quarterback Phil Jurkovec set to transfer to Boston College

If you’re planning to begin classes at your new college in the fall, transfer application deadlines will often be in March or April. Typically, the more selective the school, the earlier the deadline . Transfer students in the University of California system need to apply at the same time as the regular applicant pool in November.

At many less selective schools, transfer applications can be submitted in late spring or even the summer for fall admission. Deadlines will often be flexible depending on the college’s current needs and enrollments. Penn State, for example, has an April 15th priority deadline, but after that date the university has a rolling admission policy.

In general, you will have the best chances of a successful transfer if you plan ahead and submit your application before the published deadline. This is particularly true for highly selective colleges and universities and for more selective programs. That said, you’ll still have many transfer options should you decide to transfer at the end of the academic year, and it’s not unusual for students to transfer just a couple of weeks before classes begin. You’ll want to contact the admissions office at your target school to find out if they are still accepting transfer applications.

In 2020, we faced a national reckoning on racial injustice in America – a reckoning that continues today. Discuss how this has affected you, what you have learned, or how you have been inspired to be a change agent around this important issue.

While the issue of racial injustice has been percolating for decades, it hit a tipping point in 2020in large part due to the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, among others. Subsequent events seemed to indicate a shift in public sentiment, with many white Americans acknowledging both their own race-based advantages and the inequities African Americans experience in their daily lives.

Despite our efforts to move forward, conditions havent improved significantly. Racially motivated violence continues to make headlines, the COVID-19 pandemic highlights disparities in medical care, and hurricanes and floods remind us that racial minorities are often disproportionately impacted by natural disasters.

If youve had a significant, specific experience with racial injustice thats changed the way you act, think, or view the world, this prompt may be a great option for you.

Because this prompt is new, we dont have a BC-specific essay to share. But this essay, written for Yale, nicely answers a similar prompt.

At Boston College, we hope to draw on the Jesuit tradition of finding conversation partners to discuss issues and problems facing society. Who is your favorite conversation partner? What do you discuss with that person?

Do you find yourself discussing current events with your dad on the way home from soccer practice while listening to the news on the radio? Are you the first to raise your hand in biology class to share new findings on climate change? Do you stay at your barista job long after your shift ends, talking with management about sustainable coffee sourcing? BC wants to know whom youre talking with, why, and, of course, what youre talking about. The key word is conversation here. Instead, BC wants to learn about the dialogues youre having and what youve learned from them.

Although we dont have an example for this new prompt, this Princeton essay is a great start that could be improved with some key revisions.

Keep Up Your Grades At Your Current College

After you decide to transfer, make sure you continue to keep your grades up. Colleges want to admit transfer students who have demonstrated their ability to succeed in college. Just as your academic record in high school was the most important part of your regular college application, your college transcript is going to be the most important part of your transfer application. The admissions folks will be looking to see that you have a proven record of handling college-level work.

Also, think about your transfer credits and the time it will take you to graduate. Colleges generally won’t transfer grades that are lower than a “C.” The fewer credits you are able to transfer, the longer it will take you to graduate. If it takes you five or six years to graduate instead of four, you could be looking at tens of thousands of dollars of additional costs as well as an additional year or two in which you aren’t earning income.

Without Max Richardson, Isaiah McDuffie, and John Lamot, theres plenty of room for players to step up at linebacker. One name to know is Graham-Mobley , who has one year of eligibility at BC.

Hafley said Graham-Mobley is an example of where the Eagles needed a specific piece and Graham-Mobleys background and experience aligned with what they coveted.

Its all out there for the taking, Graham-Mobley said.

Sinkfield said BC stood out because of its ability to produce running backs. He should see a key role in a room that also features Travis Levy, Pat Garwo III, and freshman Xavier Coleman.

Banks described himself as a high-energy guy and a big body who can also move. He credited Hafley for treating his players like pros and expecting a lot out of them. Thompson and Daniel will compete for roles in camp as well.

Hafley has consistently emphasized the importance of competition, and the Eagles are starting to see that more and more, thanks in part to the transfers.

Whats special about this team is that second string, third string, it will never fall off, Sinkfield said. Everythings going to look the same.
