Can You Fix Your Gpa In College
If you have a 3.0 GPA and 15 credit hours, by earning straight As during your next semester, you can bump your GPA to a 3.5. However, if you have already earned 60 credit hours and have a 3.0 GPA a straight-A semester will only bump your GPA to a 3.2.
I’m Graduating High School Early
There are rare advanced students who earn enough credits, perhaps from courses at a local community college or online, to graduate high school early and go straight into college at a young age.
These students push their timeline earlier by a year or two, taking the SAT or ACT as freshmen or sophomores, and gathering all their documents early. If this sounds like you, you’ll probably want to work closely with your counselors, administrators, and teachers to make sure they agree with your choice.
You might take your tests in freshmen and sophomore year, ask your sophomore year teachers for recommendations, and apply in the fall or winter of your junior year. You may also have to take the GED to earn the equivalent of your high school diploma. Make sure you’ve met all graduation requirements and, of course, have concrete, realistic reasons for graduating high school early and enrolling in college.
The aforementioned situations are exceptions rather than the rule, but can be great options if they apply to your situation and needs. In closing, let’s review when most students submit their applications to colleges.

Read Expert Advice On Whether You Should Continue College Or Drop Out To Start A Business
- Although a college degree is not mandatory for entrepreneurship, attending college can be very helpful, as it teaches you soft skills like ownership, accountability, time management, prioritizing and emotional maturity.
- Consider gaining experience before starting your business, whether that be through volunteer work, apprenticeship, internship or general work experience.
- There are several questions you need to ask yourself before choosing entrepreneurship over college you should evaluate your industry, skills, passion, experience, financial stability and support system.
Entrepreneurship can be a great way to financial freedom, but building a successful business takes a lot of time, hard work and perseverance. Many young workers are left wondering when they should start a business and what education is required to do so.
A college degree is not required to start a business, but it certainly helps. College not only teaches students educational topics that can be helpful in starting a business, but also soft skills, like how to be lifelong learners.
Lauren Grech, CEO and co-founder of international event management firm LLG Events, said your industry will guide what type of education you need, but she recommended that every entrepreneur be at least familiar with some basic business topics.
Those facing this decision should take the time to answer these questions honestly and evaluate if the pros of starting a business will outweigh the cons of quitting school.
Do College Credits Ever Expire What You Need To Know Before Transferring
Sometimes students face unforeseen circumstances and need to take a break from their college studies. In other cases, students may earn their associate degree, embark on a career in their chosen path, and then return to pursue a bachelors degree to open up more and better-paying job opportunities. In other instances, a student may have earned their bachelors degree, but then want to earn a second bachelors or masters degree to distinguish themselves within a related or completely different field.
Regardless of the situation, students often have questions around whether the college credits theyve previously earned have expired or if those credits can count towards a different degree they plan to pursue. The ability to transfer previously earned college credits can help reduce the amount of time a student must spend working toward a new degree.
The good news is that, in most cases, college credits that have previously been earned may remain valid and do not expire. There are, however, some instances where certain types of courses and educational credits may have an expiration date.
Well cover the different scenarios where previously earned college credits can still be applied, as well as some of the common questions students have when considering returning to school.

Your Answer Should Depend On Your Present Employment Status:
As opposed to just randomly picking a date, you should ensure that your answer is based on your present employment status. If you are yet to give in your two weeks notice then you should honestly state that.
However, if you have already given in your two weeks notice, then you can state that you can begin as soon as your two weeks are complete. Doing something like this really brings home the fact that you are responsible and respect your previous company enough to end things in a professional manner.
Summer Before Senior Year
Summer is the perfect time before the chaos of September rolls around for you to start the preliminary phases of college admissions. Schedule tour visits for any college campuses that you have not yet visited and make notes that can be used to eventually narrow down your choices. Start considering which of your teachers would write a strong letter of recommendation. Take time to look over the Common Application and begin brainstorming some topics that you could use for your personal essay or personal statement. Once you narrow down your choices, explore their websites to learn admissions requirements and request an application. Make sure that your senior class schedule will meet all of the required courses youll need for enrollment.

Ask The Administrator: A Fresh Start
Seeking another freshman experience.
A new correspondent writes:
Is it possible to start fresh as a freshman instead of transferring?
Two years ago I started at a community college and while I was able to do somewhat well my first semester it became harder the longer I stayed at this specific institution. The school was a mess, and I let myself get pulled in several directions While I learned from those situations and have been able to better my career I had to drop out when the online option wasn’t truly online. I went through all of the formalities, but there must have been a clerical error or something of that nature as I, months upon months later, received a bill when FAFSA had taken care of it and I dropped during the drop period. I want to go to school. I want to better myself and make a positive impact in the field of psychology. I just don’t know how to go about it or even the nature of the person I would talk to concerning this. In High School I made solid grades and ended my senior year on the honor roll, I was even in an incredibly competitive Medical Assisting program. I don’t want my terrible community college experience that was just an odd blip in my life to become more than it has to be.
Im sorry to hear that your first community college experience wasnt a good one. But it shouldnt derail you from moving forward.
Good luck! It wont be easy, but youre on a path that might actually work.

Specifics When Reinvention Is Overwhelming
Are these suggestions and others like them useful?
I would say yes, in a limited fashion, keeping in mind the note above regarding your fitness for these jobs. Also critical how much you will earn and if it is enough.
So how do we tangibly begin when the prospect of reinvention is overwhelming? When money is already scarce? When we feel drained, demoralized by looking for work with no success, and alone?
Michelles situation is not uncommon: job cut back, dwindling funds, a single mother not quite free, an elder parent, and yes, over the magic number 50 at which bias in our society is prevalent and, especially for women, looks, energy, and perception by others will be very important in securing work.
I wish I didnt have to state what I just did, and I would happily entertain an opposing view from both men and women, but anyone who is not working a home-based job knows this to be reality.
So here are thoughts I have when it comes to where to begin as you consider starting over. I welcome your comments and recommendations for Michelle, and for the rest of us.
Taking A Course At A Local Community College:
Community colleges often have an open enrollment policy, meaning anyone can register for a college-level course without entering a degree program, though there may be age limits and prerequisites or placement tests may be required for certain courses.
Since these courses are open, your classmates will likely be of a range of different ages and educational levels. These classes are simply classes, not cohesive programs, so you wont have residential or other programming options, but theyll likely be much more affordable than programs intended just for high school students.

Years Old: What Does It Really Mean
In our youth-obsessed country, age 50 seems to be a sort of trigger. When you hit the fifties as an age bracket, you may feel as if youre dropping off the earth.
If youre in a good relationship or marriage and you dont need the online dating world, then you havent experienced the dating-and-mating conundrum that is fifty-something prejudice.
If youre successfully self-employed, if youre secure in a position, if youre financially independent or supported by a spouse, you havent yet feel the traditional career options closing in.
Thats a lot of ifs, dont you think?
As for health, there are no magical guarantees against accident or illness at any age. Many enter their 50s feeling strong and well. But the likelihood that time will take a gradual toll on the body is higher as we get older. That deserves consideration whether were starting over or not.
Education and training? Lets not confuse the two. Both are options at any age their purpose, focus and costs will certainly vary financing may be the tricky part but the benefits , great.

Your High School May Not Have Prepared You Well For College Course Content
Again, what you learn in high school forms a foundation for what youll study in college, but not every high school offers equally rigorous preparation, particularly in the earlier grades. Even if youve completed the named prerequisites for a college course, your actual readiness depends upon the quality of your high school coursework.
Your College Planning Timeline For Regular Deadlines
In many ways, your college planning timeline for regular decision will be similar to the timeline for applying for early admission–but with some key differences. You have to consider how busy the fall of senior year is, both for you and for your teachers and counselors.
If your senior year schedule is packed with challenging courses and after school involvements, then you still might want to work on your essay over the summer months, when you have more time and focus for it. You also might still ask for your recommendations in September, or at least October. Some teachers set a cap on how many letters they’ll write, and they probably don’t want to spend their entire winter holiday writing letters. Try to ask early in the fall semester.
When you apply for regular decision, you might have one more opportunity to take the SAT or ACT in December. It’s still advisable to take it at least once in junior year, and many students take it twicein the fall of 11th grade and again in the spring. Again, you want to think about your schedule in the fall and how to best balance putting together a strong college application with all your other assignments, clubs, and/or sports.
Finally, some schools don’t have set deadlines at all and are flexible about when applications arrive. This option is called rolling admissions.

Take Control Of Your Mindset
Did you know that most of our reactions and actions are controlled by our habits?
Lets use an example:
You might wake up every day with the alarm clock going off and this causes a negative reaction. Why?
Well, you have implemented the idea of waking up early as a bad thing. Then your mind has made the alarm clock a trigger. The sound of it now connects it to something negative.
Its normal to be tired in the morning, but you dont have to start out your day by being grumpy. Even though youve told yourself that its okay and its a normal reaction its actually something youve programmed all by yourself in your mind.
Changing your mindset takes time because its about recreating your way of thinking, but its still a simple step. The good news is that, unlike a vegetable, you actually have thoughts and not only that youre able to change them.
You might have told yourself that your daily negative responses to certain things are normal and they are out of your control at this point because the reaction is unconsciously made. But the unconscious mind is not a second mind playing by its own rules. Its something you can control and reprogram.
John Bargh explains how our unconscious mind functions. Its controllable if we want it to be:
We have a single, unified mind that operates in both conscious and unconscious modes, always using the same set of basic machinery, fine-tuned over the course of evolutionary time.
You still want to live your life.

Consider Your Schedule And Your Needs
For many people, college is a very busy season of life. From grueling classes, to vibrant social events, to extracurricular commitments, things tend to move at a fast pace.
Nonetheless, you still need to prepare before taking the SAT. So, start your preparation program well ahead of the test date. Consult your calendar before committing to a specific test date. You definitely don’t want to wind up taking the SAT the weekend before/after a major exam or project.
You don’t want to overbook yourself.
